Charlotteville, Tobago is a quiet fishing village nestled into the rainforested hillside at the less-populated northeastern end of Tobago. It has a spectacular natural harbor, popular with the sailing set, lush rainforests replete with colorful tropical plants and birds, and gorgeous underwater scenery for those wishing to explore Caribbean and Atlantic snorkeling or diving in the same trip.

Our house is a traditional Tobago bungalow with an attached modern addition which forms two separate units, and located just one block from the beach. Upstairs is the "Love Shack" perfect for a couple, bright and breezy with hardwood and tile floors, jalousied and louvered windows, one bedroom furnished with a new queen bed and an en-suite bath with hot water shower. It also has a small living area and kitchen. The upstairs porch is a wonderful place to sip your morning coffee (or happy hour rum punch) while watching tropical birds or waving to passing villagers.

Downstairs is our "Private Retreat," more spacious and decorated in bright Caribbean colors with lots of superb local artwork. The large bedroom (with en-suite bath) has a comfortable new queen bed and a locking cabinet for your laptop or camera gear. A large additional bedroom is furnished with 2 double beds, and is a great place to send the kids to chill. The natural canal next door and nearby wave action provide water sounds to lull you to sleep while bird chatter will wake you bright and early. Rest in the hammock under the giant mango surrounded by banana plants, papayas, citrus, and flowering tropicals. Enjoy our growing collection of exotic gingers, heliconias, and tree orchids. Salome will provide clean linens and a mid-week cleaning while Cheele can have a hot, tasty dinner waiting for you when you return from a day trip. PLEASE, No Smoking!

While there are no ringing phones to awaken you, a public pay phone is at the top of the property and an internet cafe is a five minute walk into the village, if you care to keep in touch with the outside world. From your Charlotteville base, go fishing with Nigel on the "Unchained Spirit", explore Argyle Waterfall or the Gilpin Trace, the oldest forest reserve in the western hemisphere, take a birdwatching tour to Little Tobago on a glass-bottomed boat, go diving with Redman over in Speyside, explore the reefs with Stuart, your own private dive guide, or snorkel over to "Lover's Beach" where the pink sand beach is only accessible from the water. Man O' War Bay is fantastic for ocean kayaking - paddle over to Cambleton or Hermitage Beach, where you'll likely be the only ones there. If you like these natural experiences or just relaxing and "liming" with the locals, far (well, 90 minutes) from the hordes of people and contrived resorts, this may be the place for you.
