Blue Haven Hotel - Reader Reports & Opinion
I'm Confused, Please Help!
Tabitha from U.K. visited in March 2008 and awarded
My boyfriend and I have just booked an expensive week´s break at the Blue Haven flying out next week in need of serious R+R. I did the usual quick read up on trip advisor and read some great things, then booked it this morning and have now read some really, really awful things – Have we made a huge mistake and wasted a couple of thousand pounds?
If anyone has been recently please can you let me know weather it is worth staying there. Reviews and the food and service concern me as we have paid for half board
Eagerly awaiting any feedback
Many thanks in advance
Stephen and Tabitha

We stayed here for 8 nights after recommendation from Mot Mot Travel and the website. The food and accomodation were good and the room a delight with stunning views over the bay – even though we had requested an upstairs room and had one reserved – we ended up downstairs. Cleanliness and maid service were very good. The setting and overall ambiance were all we had expected. (The hotel is however a long way from Scarborough which holds nothing we would recommend except maybe a walk to the local park. Traffic at the port was horrendous and modern amenities were non-existent.) The hotel management is also non-existent and this was seen clearly in the lack of direction to staff overall – though reception staff were polite and very helpful with our safe that on arrival was locked – it took 2 days to get it opened for us!! Staff in general clearly had a lot to contend with in the poor management we witnessed. The dining room requires an immediate upgrade and cleanliness of the presentation area for buffet food, the floors and seating were frankly lamentable. Service was again polite and staff were well meaning and helpful, but streamlining of roles would make for greater efficiency overall. The manager needs to get his act together and his personal appearance and professional role is not what one would expect of a 4 star hotel. He was even late for the manager's cocktail reception!! Issues requiring his immediate attention already mentioned along with service times – it took 1 and 1/2 hrs to get our bill the first night of our stay and then it was the wrong one and the party whose bill it was had left having had some very cheap drinks at management expense. Billing is a major issue and the hotel must be losing out if our experience is anything to go by. Despite the probs we had an enjoyable time and did not rely on the hotel for our source of entertainment so if this is the same for you it will be a great place to eat and sleep.

Exquisite setting with a very glamorous history but unfortunately the food was very disappointing both in the restaurant in the evening and in the beach bar at lunchtime. We expected something which was a cut above the average but we were very let down.

A Very Disappointing Hotel

A very disappointing hotel
This hotel seems to get some good reviews, but during our ten day stay there was little to explain why.
Some members of the staff were friendly and helpful. However others just weren´t, some to the point of rudeness.
The food is expensive but poor, and the service was often slapdash.
The mini bars were never serviced, and the room not always cleaned to a good standard. Even getting sachets of coffee in our rooms was clearly beyond them. After a few days of asking we bought our own in a supermarket.
There is little of a Caribbean welcome here. We were made to feel unwelcome in the bar after 10 PM, when the staff wanted to close and go home. It seems to be aimed at package tours of older people. We were often the last people in the restaurant at 8.00pm.
The 2005 Rough Guide claims they have a gym – but rather typically it is actually a building site and was described as “a work in progress”.
A real shame as the location is good, but is simply not worth going to. You only get a couple of holidays a year it would be a real shame to waste it feeling unwelcome and badly fed. There are far better places to stay. And for less money.

Our First Time In Tobago

We have just returned from our first trip to Tobago, certainly not our last.
The Blue Haven should change its name to Blue Heaven.
The staff are truly wonderful always smiling always happy and very speedy to assist in any matters. We had room 39 overlooking the Bacolet Bay. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious.
Ww could not have asked for a better holiday. The food in "Shutters on the BAy" was excellent, and served by staff who looked after everyone superbly.
The hotel is wonderfully situated on an outcrop/hill so that all rooms have a sea view, and being on the Atlantic side of the island have a cool breeze.
Our fellows occupants whilst we were there considted of about 75% british, and mostly middle aged couples.
We strongly recommend the hotel if you wish to have a quiet luxurious time.
We cannot wait to return for another stay.
