A Secret Slice Of Paradise I'm Reluctant To Share

Julia C. from U.S.A. visited in April 2008 and awarded  Five out of Five

I stayed at Grange Cottage in April 2008 with a rotating cast of friends from Chicago and Tobago. The cottage is beautiful in its simplicity, and lacks no features or amenities other than a TV. But with the beach just steps away and a relaxing verandah to read and pass the time, who watches TV on holiday anyway?

Many of my local Tobago friends who visited or came to our going-away BBQ were surprised to realize there was such a lovely hidden gem they had not previously known was there. The seclusion and calming sounds of the waves, wildlife and beautiful view were stunning to everyone who visited the Cottage.

My only wish is that there was a hammock or two, but Charisse, the gracious property manager, took note of our request and hopes to have that resolved by our next visit. In any case, Grange Cottage is an affordable accommodation on a stunning and private strip near Mt Irvine, close to Buccoo and Sunday School and other surrounding villages.

For single women travelers, my only suggestion is to take advantage of the house and perimeter security system, as the secluded location may invite unwanted interest from passers-by on the beach.

All told, I plan to return to Grange Cottage on every future visit to the beautiful island of Tobago.

Just As Described And Fabulous!

Jim Garbutt from Canada visited in March 2008 and awarded  Four out of Five

We would rather keep this place a secret but...

Four of us stayed for two weeks. We had originally planned to stay at Castara but we're glad we changed. Grange is much closer to groceries and other amenities but we felt the beach was actually more private at Grange since we were the only ones living there.

It may be more peaceful at Castara as the road passes by closey behind Grange cottage but it is not noticed much over the sounds of the surf. It was most noticable earlier in the morning while still in bed.

The house is quite basic but has all that is needed. The kitchen in well stocked, microwave, gas range, large fridge, drip coffee maker and lots of pots pans and utensils (no potato masher though). The BBQ is not a type I have experienced before and it took me some getting used too. Full size washer and dryer down stairs. The photos are absolutely representative.

The house has no A/C but we found it was not needed at all due to the shaded location and proximity to the sea (40 steps away).

We had no troubles with insects and did not unpack the netting we had brought with us.

Snorkeling was great just off the beach in front of the house.

Our booking and arrival all went without a hitch.

We stayed at Sea Shell Villas in 2006. That place has daily housekeeping and a pool and A/C. None of that was missed one bit by us. We had the whole of Grange beach to ourselves much of the time and when others were there, there was still lots of privacy.

The tree and iguana in the review photo are much larger.

Two Fantastic Weeks

Darren Lumley from U.K. visited in December 2007 and awarded  Four out of Five

There were eight of us staying at the cottage and we had a fantastic time. The beach was virtually our own and the body boarding was great. There's easily enough in the way of facilities to cope with 8 adults, plenty of cooking facilities and the place itself is comfortable. The sound of the sea at night sends you off into a deep sleep and because the house just has shutters you get fresh air all night. We had a great stay, I'm planning on going back in 08 to share the joys of this place with some other friends too.

A Places Which I Would Not Like To Miss.

Siegfried Hetz from Austria visited in February 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

Grange Cottage counts to those places in the world which I would not like to miss any more. Lying immediately to the Caribbean Sea, it is almost a dream and the easy equipment does not change the subject from the essentials. Since 2000 we have been there five times.

Grange Recently Anyone?   04 Jun 2007

Chris B from Trinidad

Has anyone been here recently, say within the last 3 months?

I've read the reviews on here and I am impressed.

It's a toss up between here and Tosca's. Of course Grange is on the beach and Tosca's not.

Do let me know your experiences and thoughts. Has the fence (mentioned in the review) been fixed? What's security like now etc?

Regards

Chris
