An Extremely Disappointing Experience

Anesha Seenath from U.K. visited in December 2007 and awarded  One out of Five

On arrival the hotel seemed lovely and was made to sign reciepts for the whole stay, but by the next evening my guest and I knew we had to leave, There was no staff about to deal with queries when we got up at 8am. We had no choice of breakfast, ther was nowhere to get lunch at this hoptel and once again no choice of dinner, this was not explained at booking. The pool was filthy, there was no changes in towels nor were the toiletries replaced [they were clearly used by the previous guests].

When we tried to get an explaination for this, the manageress at the time said the were having cut backs and going throught renovations and therfore operating on minimum staff!!!!

I weanterd to know why this was not explained to me at booking??? If I had known I would not have booked at all.

We decided to leave this place the next day and was assured of a refund which I have not recieved YET!

DISGUSTING!

A Dreadful Experience

Natasha from U.K. visited in September 2007 and awarded  One out of Five

We visited Tobago in September this year for our honeymoon. We travelled around the island staying in different types of accomodation and decided after seeing the Footprints website and speaking to them on the phone that we would push the boat out and book their 'Lovers Retreat' for a 2 night stay. As soon as we arrived we could see the place had a neglected air and it became apparant we were the only guests. The manageress took payment for our room imediately and with hindsight we were naive not to ask to see the room before we paid. We were were then shown to our room which was in an extremely poor state of decoration and cleanliness. It smelt damp and musty, surfaces were coated in dust there was mould around the bath, holes in the bedsheets (we've taken photos to send to the tourist board). The private pool was dirty and the terrace covered in bird droppings. The rest of the resort was equally run down. The pools were unusable, with debries in them and rust coloured water. It was incredibly dissapointing. Because of the location and cut off nature of the resort we decided that we would have to stay there for one night. The manageress couldn't have given a damn about our comments and because we had originally booked a package for 2 days she would not refund us 1 nights stay as she said she had had to get staff in especially for our stay. The little amount we did manage to get back she wouldn't refund to our credit card (which we had paid with) but insisted she would send a cheque to our home in american dollars (this has only just turned up). The whole experience was very upsetting as our trip to Tobago had been amazing up to that point and we felt very badly treated. That 1 night stay in a dirty room with a very average meal of fish and rice and a small breakfast (1 piece of bread each and no fruit) cost us £200. We feel that the footprints website is a pack of lies and what is on offer is a dirty, dilapidated overpriced resort with an incredibly rude manageress

Guest Report - Footprints Eco Resort & Spa

Natacha from Netherlands visited in February 2007 and awarded  Two out of Five

Hai,

We visited the footprint resort in February 2007. We stayed in the King of the Wood villa, which is situated on a great location. The house is nice and big, but a bit outdated. The garden with pool and jacuzzi was very nice but also need to be renovated soon. The view was amazing. It was all very quite and we had a relaxing time. We rented a car and saw the whole island. We only stayed 2 days or something near the house. The staff was friendly, but a bit unexperienced. There was not a lot of choice for breakfast, lunch we never tried and we had dinner there only twice. The first time was bad, the second time was better with starter and main course. The always served nice fruit cocktail. The swimming pool near the reception is in a bad condition, but they were working on cleaning it and they were putting a new wooden terrace near the ocean. You are not able to swim in the sea, too rough, but the view is very nice.

They took us the first day to get some groceries which was very nice. Also the room was cleaned every day and they checked the area, the road where the vilas are situated every night (which is great because you feel quite lonely there!).

I loved Tobago, and the view of the Foot print and the rest! We were the only ones there (except for one or two nights)but the resort needs an update. Also with respect to the choice of food.

Besides this the price is very high and for that price you should expect a better service!!

This is a place with very good possibilties but you need to hire good staff and a manager which have experience in running a hotel.

Best regards,

Natacha

Any Update On Footprints Eco Resort In Culloden Bay?   01 Dec 2006

Lizzie B from Bristol, England

Has anyone got any updates on Footprints in Culloden Bay? The previous reviews said it was a bit run down. We have heard that there are new owners and renovation work is going on. Overall it sounds on paper like a fabulous place, and I am looking for somewhere special in january for my 40th birthday.

Any up to date information will be gratefully received!

Footprints Review - End Jan 2006   08 Feb 2006

Richie H from Bristol UK

We have just returned to the UK after a fantastic 2 weeks on Tobago and used mytobago and tripadvisor to get travellers reviews of accomodation to pull a plan together. The honesty of the reviewers was matched with our experiences in most cases but – unfortunately the experience at Footprints was not as good as we had hoped.

The setting is fantastic and the staff are great – both of these were highlighted in reviews... the area that lets Footprints down is the general state of repair of the resort.

There are 3 pools which – a few years ago looked fantastic – we picked up the original brochure from the reception which showed how good things once were. Now there is one great pool and one very sad looking pool which is un useable and – the small jacuzzi overlooking the sea has lost it's fizz.

The wooden structure has started to rot and in some parts would be dangerous – especially if you had kids with you.

This review is not one that's full of praise but hopefully it will allow people to plan their trip and make their choices with a full knowledge of what a resort is really like.

There is work being done as we left so – hopefully things will get back to the former glory but – for the time being it's worth checking before booking...
