Help - Tropikist Beach....   24 Apr 2003

Josie Venn from Cardiff, S Wales

I am visiting Tobago next week with my family – husband and 2 small children and we were SOLD the Tropikist by our Tour Operator as a good hotel, good facilities, good for children etc etc..... I have been looking at your views on hotels (and may I congratulate you on an excellent site.... I now feel I know Tobago without having previously visited!!) and find that the Tropikist sounds apalling..... Has anyone a good word to say about this hotel?? To top it all we are on an All Incluside deal!! I now feel I am dreading my stay there and will just have to make the most of it.... I have been in travel for 15 years and feel as I have now been conned... Please help!!

I'm planning to visit Tobago, and the Caribbean, for the first time end May/early June with wife & kids (boys 14&11). I'm torn between Tropikist and Grand Courlan hotels. The setting, facilities and comments about Grand Courlan on this website make it a very tempting proposition, but I can take advantage of a promotional offer at the Tropikist which will cost me £1000 less. The comments about the Tropkist seem to be very mixed with some fairly derogatory reports. Should I take the risk at the Tropikist? Is Grand Courlan worth the difference? Which of the two hotels, if any, is most suitable for families whose parents want chill-out and kids love rainforests, snorkelling and activities?

After browseing your review articles and noted all the negatitive comments made on Tropikist I had to respond. I am a regular visitor to the hotel and never had a problem with the Service / Staff or management. Tropikist is ideally located and I would certainly continue to visit. So would everyone please don't be turn off by one persons bad experience.

I have been visiting the Tropikist for the past 10 years on and off and have been to other islands in between but Tobago is our favourite. We always meet people that have stayed before and are back again. We have found the service at the hotel a bit slow but then it is the Caribbean. But have always found the staff and owner of the hotel very pleasant and freindly. So everyone please don't be put off by one persons bad experience.

Hi! Has anyone recently been to the Tropikist Hotel? What was it like and are there many restaurants close by? We're thinking of going in May and would appreciate some feed-back.

Many thanks
