Palmhaven - Reader Reports & Opinion

Everyone Should Go To Palmhaven!

Lesley Whitney from U.K. visited in April 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

A group of 5 ranging in age from 5 to 55, we stayed at Palmhaven from 31 March to 14 April 2007 and we all agreed it was the best holiday ever. Palmhaven is a fantastic house which offers everything you could possibly need. The three bedrooms each have ensuite facilities, providing privacy for everyone. The house is high on a hill and the views are remarkable. We never tired of strolling round the grounds looking at the views from different points. The swimming pool was a joy and we rarely moved far from it! Swimming in the pool early in the morning with the birds singing and flying down to the poolside was one of the highlights for me. Being on a hill, the gentle breeze was always welcome.

The house has everything you could possibly ask for but its greatest asset is Joyce and her husband, Wayne! Joyce cleans and does the laundry as well as imparting her widespread knowledge of the local birds, plants and wildlife. A real bonus, however, is her cooking. For a very small payment she will cook and her local dishes are out of this world!

A car is a must-have! The hills are very steep. There are plenty of good restaurants in the area but none are within walking distance (unless you are a VERY keen walker!). The island is beautiful and there are many unspoilt beaches and places of interest but the roads are tricky and require careful handling. Don't be surprised if you turn a corner and find people sitting on chairs in the middle of the road!

We had a fantastic time and are now planning our return!

Palmhaven Report   01 Feb 2007

Hi Eva

We've just returned on Friday. From the moment we got there we felt right at home – in fact it was actually much nicer than home! It was wonderful to stay in a holiday home that was so tastefully decorated, pale cottons, natural furnishings, and all the necessary mod-cons. It´s private, tranquil and a perfect place to unwind. We´d breakfast every morning on the patio accompanied by bird song. The pool was gorgeous, views of the exotic, verdant forest all around. Basking on the sun-loungers we´d watch the humming birds and all manner of brightly coloured bird flit around the many fruit trees and flowering bushes in the garden – Palmhaven was paradise.

We hired a jeep which was inexpensive and fairly essential and explored most of the Island´s beaches, it was also handy for popping out to buy chicken roti from the hut at the bottom of the road. There is also a supermarket and pharmacy 5 minutes drive away. Anyway if ever a small fortune befalls me I´m buying the place! Hope that helps your decision.

Linda

100% Recommended Villa - Excellent Location

Victoria & Jonathan Lown from U.K. visited in September 2006 and awarded  Five out of Five

Where do we start! A 12 day honeymoon of absolute bliss, the villa was all we needed in fact much bigger than we thought we could have invited the whole family but considering it was our honeymoon i guess it was not quite appropriate!

The weather in Tobago is lovely and Palm Haven is the perfect spot for a villa in a gorgeous area high up and with the most amazing views yet 5 min drive to shops (if that) and not even 10 minutes drive to the beach (if you drive like my husband – or the tobagonians!!)

Highly recommended places to visit and see are the glass bottomed boat (we picked up from Pigeon Point – best beach by far) the nylon pool, a memory we shall take to our graves! its a naturally made pool in the sea which you access from boat and the water is as clear as a pool and surrounded by reef so feels enclosed. you cannot explain in words what it is like so all i can suggest is that you go there!! We also enjoyed the short trek (20 mins for a very slow walk) to Tobago's largest waterfall, not half as much as we enjoyed getting lost in the rainforest and seeing the most spectacular wildlife.

in all honesty there are too many good things to mention but we did as much as possible in the 12 days and still had time to sunbathe and eat to our hearts content! (Tobago not recommended if you want to diet or lose weight the food is so scrummy!!)

We were not expecting a house keeper and cook so pleasant as Joy is but this just set the mood for the whole of our stay in Tobago everyone from the security guard (Roger) was absolutley friendly and welcoming and we hired a car (Sheppy's car hire situated right by the airport is a must) Sheppy himself was such a delight he is even due to come and have dinner with us when he visits the UK! the car hire is very reasonable and recommended to see all of tobago, we spent most days travelling and driving around the beautiful Island and still want to go back for more.

The villa really is true to the pictures and if not better! Also the maps and guides and information on Tobago which is kept in the villa was an absolute god send and all you need really to plan your stay. On a tropical rainy afternoon (which normally lasts no more than a few hours) the cable tv provided many up to date movies in fact some we hadnt quite seen, as well the villa providing a decent music system for a lazy time by the pool (oh and i havent mentioned the glorious pool which had plenty of sun beds surrounding it and a very handy ledge along one side inside the pool which was perfect to sit on and great for reading your book yet getting some sun and swim at the same time!!)not only that but it has an infinity edge which at night with the underwater lights on was breathtaking for your dinner!

We would not hesitate to recommend again and in fact are planning our next trip for 2008! We love the country so much we would like to buy a second home for holiday's ourselves but unfortunatley Palm Haven is not for sale!!!

The owner and company who deal with the rental side of it in Tobago are as helpful and honest as can be...

If you have not been then why not!!!

Love Victoria and Jonathan

Eva from UK

Dear All,

Many thanks for all your reviews. We have rented Palmhaven following your advise and it was much better than we expected! We have spent a fabulous week and had a marvellous wedding reception at the villa!

Palmhaven is a spacious, beautifully decorated house with a massive garden and large pool. It is well maintained by it's owner and Joyce and Wayne who are looking after the house on a daily basis. Joyce is also a fantastic cook so please take advantage.

It is located about 15-20 minutes drive away from the airport and Pigeon Point (important if you surfing :D ) as well as close to Shirvan Road where you can experience local cuisine at it's best! However it is also remote enough to allow you to unwind and relax.

It is managed by local managment company which is extremely nice and helpful without being interfering or intrusive.

I have absolutely no complaints about this place. It is exceptionally beautiful and comfortable as well as it is well managed and perfectly organised.

The only regret that we have is the fact that we have only rented it for one week!

We will be coming back – many thanks for creating such a beautiful place Kay!

Many thanks and regards,

Eva
