Recent Experience Of The Hilton? 13 May 2006
John Redburn from Herts, UK
First great site! Informative and practical.
We booked two weeks in early August at the Hilton I read some recent damning criticisms (most from tripadvisor it has to be said) of the service , food and "dirty beaches", which make me feel a bit nervous – especially as I will be shelling out a considerable junk of my salary to take the family over there.
Does anyone have any more up to date info on the Hilton? Thanks

Hilton Hotel In Tobago 16 Mar 2005
Tracy from Kent
Hello
I wonder if you can help me. We are getting married at the Hilton Hotel in Tobago in December – there is a large party of us going one being a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children) most of the hotels we looked into only allow for 2 adults and 1 child so we have one child staying in with another couple. Of course the family would prefer their child to go in with them when we arrive there – if anyone has stayed there and thinks that the room is bigger enough and whether they would allow this please could you let me know.
Many thanks

Recent View Of Hilton 12 Feb 2005
Pat B from Worthing, West Sussex, England
Recently returned from two weeks at the Hilton. After much reading of reviews on this site decided on this hotel so knew in advance that it was somewhat remote. Not many reports on this hotel (unlike Coco Reef!) so here's my, hopefully, objective view.
Definitely need a car or taxis to come and go from the plantation site. The hotel is in a lovely setting – rolling waves, long deserted beach, hillside views of Scarborough area+, beautifully kept gardens and golf course, clean pools which include a lovely quiet satellite pool, cooling breezes. The food in all restaurants is good. Majority of staff friendly and service good. Carl in concierge was particularly helpful and reception staff also.
However, due to the hotel becoming full (knock on effect of Tsunami), insufficient staff in restaurants and housekeeping to keep up standard (evening towel changes, turn downs, deliveries of water etc. became spasmodic). Towards the end of our 2 week stay, it was definitely a case of all hands to the pump, with members of the management helping out in the Plantation Room and bars. A typical wait at lunchtime in the grill was 2 hours and a 2 sittings arrangement was introduced in the Coral Reef (we arrived on Monday and earliest we could eat in this restaurant was Saturday). We understand they are trying to recruit more staff but bearing in mind Steve's comment about full employment on the Island, this could be difficult.
Rooms were pleasant although to call them all Ocean View is pushing it – the room we were allocated in the South Wing had an Ocean glimpse, but changed to North which improved our view. This may not always be the case, it depends on foliage and floor level.
The hotel in general, although only 3 years old, is looking a bit tired round the edges, including the rooms and anyone expecting '5 star luxury' would be disappointed.
The all inclusive worked well both with food and drink. At times in the lobby bar my husband had to have Gordon's gin as they had run out of the local brand and at one time they had also run out of Gordon's and he was forced to drink Tanquerie!
Touching on Paul's thread on people's expectations, we last visited Tobago 15 years ago and it's still a lovely island with beautiful bays, friendly people and relatively unspoilt. For many years we have been going to Barbados which, if you are not so fit and young, is easier to get around. (Castera for e.g. is beautiful but it would be impossible for us to cope with all the climbing). So if you want to stay somewhere in the Caribbean where local amenities/restaurants/accommodation/beaches are all within easy walking distance (plus frequent local buses on which you can travel all over the island), West Coast of Barbados would be our choice rather than Crown Point/Store Bay or the remoteness of Hilton.
I must end by saying that we did have a very enjoyable 2 weeks in Tobago.

Hilton Hotel / Car Hire 04 Jan 2005
Darren B from London
Girlfriend and I are off to the Hilton in February which we''re very much looking forward to.
Can anyone advise if the the all inclusive option is worth the money, as I''ve heard that food and drinks can be quite expensive at the Hilton. We''re planning to explore the island so perhaps the AI option isn''t the best suited.
We''re also looking to hire a car whilst there. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good hire company and if its worth booking in advance or when in Tobago.
Thanks in advance.
