Stayed at the Hilton with my wife for Christmas and New Year. This is not a straightforward review of our stay because there were many factors that were delightful but these were not specific to the Hotel. I would certainly recommend a visit or holiday to the island.
As for the Hilton, it is somewhat tired both in terms of decor and facilities but let me start with the good stuff.
Staff were great, informal and friendly. General restaurant was fine and the buffet for each meal was varied and consistent. Not much entertainment and you should get out to see other parts of the island, the people are wonderful and we always felt safe.
The bad stuff. We made the big mistake of booking the 'high end' retaurant in the hotel for dinner at Christmas and to be frank it was dreadful. We've eaten more meals out than I care to remember and this ranks in our bottom 10 not just because the service was non-existant, the food was very poor and the meal was expensive. These comments were reiterated by everyone we spoke to so we are not being overtly critical. The upside of the poor service and food was that it was actually so laughable the guests bonded, in the way you may do as a hostage or if you are under siege, we had a good laugh and met quite a number of people so it kind of broke the ice. What really irks is that the atmosphere and (white)staff were very stuffy but couldn't deliver, quite pretentious.
But do go to Tobago, visit the mytobago site and research where you want to go and what to do. It is very chilled and has a great deal going for it.

Loved the place. I was working in Trinidad so I brought my girlfriend over from UK for two weeks. Had no problems with the wind at all. Hired a car & drove all over the island. Eat outside the hotel mostly & had "doubles" for breakfast most days.Room was fine & service was excellent Considering returning again this year.

Good But Details Could Have Been Better

Hi there, we stayed at the Hilton Tobago back in 2005. Have been looking at bthis website as we are going back to Tobago in Feb 2007 for our Honeymoon (staying at the Coco Reef this time).
The Hilton was lovely, except for the fact that it was too orientated toward North American guests. At every meal you would be (rather annoyingly) asked of you were "All-Inclusive? or Modified American?") which after the first few days began to grate.
The general atmosphere of the hotel was excellent particularly during the days, although the evenings could be a bit lacklustre and if you want a bit more nightlife you need to venture out elsewhere. The Divers Den was fun!!!! (Everytime we thought about going into the Hotel bar it was either empty or they were having a Karaoke night.......YUK).
The best feature of the hotel was World of Watersports dive shop, run by Rikki (from the UK). I took a couple of dive qualifications over the stay and am now a "Scuba Nut"!!! They have an exemplary attitude to safety and customer service with an excellent 'personal touch'. This was typified by my Instructor (Andre) when we got into the water, on my first open water dive and he said: "Welcome to my office!!"
WATCH OUT FOR THIS:
Even if you are staying on an all-inclusive basis, they still ask you to sign for every drink/meal etc ordered. They seem to attribute a small 'charge' to each bill. If you are not careful you will be presented with a bill when you check out consisting of all of these 'small' charges combined. Unless you query it they will expect it to be paid!
It was the small details that let the hotel down and they could do with putting more emphasis on guests from other nations rather than just the U.S. (including their menu choices).
Pleasant but would not stay there again!

Could Somebody Give Me A Positive Review For The Tbh Please? 19 Feb 2007
Vikki Ayres from Essex
Hi everyone,
Stayed at the Grafton last August and had a fantastic time, so much so that we decided to go back this August, unfortunately the Grafton will be closed for refurbishment during this period, and we had to book the TBH. So far I have read nothing but negative reports in relation to this hotel, and of course the recent outbreak of food poisoning is a worry as we will be taking our 8 yr old with us! Does anybody know for certain whether the Grafton will be totally closed or just part of the building? Am considering cancelling TBH and looking elswhere now. Any positive advice out there please? ![]()

Hilton Tobago 15 Jan 2007
Grant Mchattie from SCOTLAND
Hi All,
has anyone heard anything about the Hilton being in administration. I had recently been asked what is was like by friends who are going to Tobago in February for a windsurfing holiday. I said that we had stayed there several times and had always found it to be great, in line with the review on this site.
I made the mistake
of looking at the Tripadvisor site yesterday and the last 3 reviews are unbelievable. ( I know I shouldn't
) One of them says that they understand the Hilton is in administration. This is a worry as my friends are going and we have booked ourselves for June and October later this year. Earlier posts from the New Year period are OK.
Any news would be much appreciated
Thanks
Grant
