Second Stay At Hummingbird Cottage

Simon Goodrich from U.K. visited in February 2008 and awarded  Five out of Five

Stayed at Hummingbird twice and love it. Going to book again for 2009. Well appointed, always someone there if you need help and great fun. Wouldn't go anywhere else from choice. The brochure description is completely accurate. Lots to do and lots of time to do it. The watching football in Castara this year was an added bonus to go with the boat trips, the walks, nice places to eat and those gorgeous beaches. Just love it. Get yourself out there and stay at Hidden or Hummingbird Cottage.

Lovely, But . . . .

Valerie Wye from Canada visited in February 2008 and awarded  Two out of Five

We stayed at Hidden Cottage for 11 days in February. We loved all the birds and lizards--we saw far more wildlife there than in the rainforest. The dipping pool was lovely at the end of a beach day. There was lots of hot water and water pressure which we had not had at our previous accommodation.

The downside was that the cottage, although roomy, is not set up for four people. There was an outdoor table and chairs by the pool but no table indoors. We had lots of rain showers, so the table was often wet. There were no chairs on the covered deck, so we were constantly moving the chairs from the pool to the deck. The deck was not wide enough to accommodate the table. As well, there wasn't comfortable seating space for four in the living area.

Also, a few people living on the other side of the ravine (who were fairly close) kept their dogs in small cages. Naturally, the dogs were not happy with that arrangement, so they barked a lot. We are animal lovers and found it distressing.

We were comfortable here, however. It's just that it did not quite live up to its billing. It certainly did not detract from our love of Castara, and we still think about our hours on the deck with the birds.

Great Apartment/house In Fabulous Location

Susan L from U.K. visited in November 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

We stayed at Hidden Cottage for 2 fantastic weeks in November. We were in Mot-Mot House for the first week and Hummingbird Apartment for the second week. It was fabulous and the accomodation was everything that we hoped for – and more.

Hidden Cottage was very clean, with plenty of good furnishings and fixtures, I especially appreciated the very comfortable beds and the aircon in the bedrooms. The showers were great with high water pressure. Absolutely everything that we needed was provided – even a (local rate) mobile phone, which came in handy. The lovely Rhonette came in every couple of days and spruced things up beautifully, especially welcome given all the sand we kept dragging in. The Cottage has a jeep for hire, it was really convenient to hire it directly from the owners – we did and really enjoyed seeing other areas of the island.

The house is really well situated. It's up a short hill literally 1-2 mins from the village centre and 3-4 mins from the bay. At the cottage you are right up in the forest canopy and consequently experience the joy of seeing some of the local wildlife up close, really close.

One of the loveliest things was sitting out on the deck/veranda for meals/ drinks/ general chilling (especially in the hammocks!) and enjoying the sounds of the forest and visits from the birds and lizards. Even when it poured with rain for one entire day, sitting comfortably on the veranda was bliss.

I had one of my best ever moments in the early evening after a hot day on the beach, floating around in the pool (supported by childrens floating water tubes), gazing dreamily up at the sky and watching the stars gradually popping out, one by one, into the deepening dark blue sky. Completely magical.

Amazing Place

John Harries from U.K. visited in August 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

Our holiday in Castara far exceeded our expectations. This house is perfectly located ,very close to the beach, local shops and the beautiful rain forest. The house was excellent accommodation for our party of 3 couples but would also be ideal for families . An outstanding feature of the holiday was the help provided by Steve ,who looks after visitors whilst on the island . Our daughter became quite ill on holiday and we needed medical assistance. Steve helped and our daughter was treated within an hour. .We were also pampered by Rhonette , who looks after the house. Her version of a "light clean" far exceeds mine!

Finally, the real experience was the friendliness of everyone we met .We have rarely felt so welcome anywhere.

If you are looking for a genuine Caribbean experience in a beautiful place we would recommend Castara as a very special place to visit.

Hidden Cottage - Great Place To Stay   05 Apr 2007

Mandy H from UK visited in March 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

We spent 5 nights at Hummingbird apartment, and it was perfect. The apartment is spacious, very clean, and has everything you need.

The wildlife, especially the birds, is fantastic – we had Mot Mots visiting us every morning for their breakfast!

It's a peaceful place to spend your evenings (if you're not drinking rum at Wallace's with the locals!), and is within minutes walking distance of everywhere you could possibly want to be in Castara.

Our only suggestion would be a larger mozzie net so you don't have to keep tucking it in during the night!!

We would highly recommend Hidden Cottage to others, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
