Quality Accomodation With A View

Gloucester Place is designed & owned by Bea & Win Sargent & offers 3-guest bedrooms of quality accomodation with stunning views overlooking the sea. If you prefer the more formal approach of a big hotel then look elsewhere but if you enjoy being house guests with the "extended family" feel about it this is for you. Our hosts were welcoming and very friendly and approachable, we enjoyed our meals very much and the whole holiday was made special for us by their excellent company and informal approach. Highly Recomended. Alan Walker.

The Jewel Of Parlatuvier

We arrived at the Gloucester and were immediately blown away by the whole setting, the pool, the house and surroundings.

The room was very comfortable having A/C and a good bed.

The real treasure however are the hosts themselves, from the first minute you feel as if you're visiting family and immediately shed the usual feeling of being out of place after stepping into the room.

Parlatuvier itself is a peaceful fishermans village with a beach that's perfect for snorkeling (and no tourists around too!)

All in all we left Tobago with a happy feeling, a feeling that in part was caused by the Sargent's warm and friendly reception.

The Highlight Of Our Trip

After two weeks moving around Tobago, staying on the Windward side, on a sailing boat, and all over the Caribbean side of the island, we ended our stay at Gloucester Place. Not knowing what to expect, we found ourselves hidden away at a true oasis, bathed in luxury.

The hosts, Bea and Win, were an absolute delight and the village of Parlatuvier couldn't have been more charming and inviting. We loved waking to the sunrise over a spectacular view, trekking with Win to uncharted waterfalls, laughing over breakfast with a houseful of guests. A truly memorable experience.

The accomodations were wonderful. Comfortable, clean beds, lovely bath facilities, private balconies, and good company. One could not ask for more.

Tropical Paradise

We wanted a vacation away from crowds and tourist traps. This B&B is a jewel on a remote part of the island with a spectacular view of the sea and the sounds of waves crashing on the cliffs and parrots in the trees. The rooms are air conditioned, large, and clean with private bathrooms and comfortable beds. The food is local, fresh and well prepared. The pool is refreshing and you can see the Caribbean as almost an extension of the water when you are in it. Enjoyable, if steep walks, take you to waterfalls on and off the property, to an interesting cafe overlooking Parlatuvier Bay and to the lovely sandy beach below. The service is informal and relaxed and the hosts are willing to share their knowledge of the island with you. I recommend that you rent a car if you want to go out for dinner and explore other parts of Tobago. Be prepared for potholes, left-hand driving, and unexpected people on the road. These facilities are not handicapped accessible. Bring suntan lotion and insect spray.

Reviews for Gloucester Place

To celebrated a significant birthday, this trip was a gift from my daughter, Valerie and her family. We truly enjoyed our stay at Gloucester Place......a memorable trip to treasure forever.

We arrived in Tobago very weary, and was met at the airport by Win Sargeant. We drove up to Parlatuvier in two cars and were warmly welcomed by Bea.

We quickly fell in love with the magnificent villa offering the natural surrounding, the breath-taking panoramic view of the sea, the sounds of nature with facilities that was beyond our expectations.

With sight truly to savor, we made certain that we started each day with a swim in the Infinity Pool which looks onto the sea, with our grand daughter, Farron.

The world that the Sargents´ visited and lived in the past, are shared with the visitors, with art collections tastefully displayed throughout the beautiful Gloucester Place.

The air condition ensuite bedrooms are great with plenty of closet and storage space.

The kitchen that we shared with the self-catering arrangement worked out very well. We did several “everybody-cook-something” type of dinners and had some memorable moments in the kitchen. Thank you Win, for sharing the most incredible dessert – the famous, one-of-a-kind warm and crunchy oatmeal cookies. (The secret will never be revealed). We are truly thankful for Bea´s wonderful culinary creations, particularly, the delicious American Thanksgiving dinner with pumpkin pie made with freshly ground spices. Your banana leaf-wrapped barbequed red snapper is a five star creation. (I will be back in a heart-beat for this).

Our hosts are wonderful, delivering information about the history of the area as well as the current happenings in Parlatuvier. Glasgow´s store just 100 meters up the road on the hillside above the bay was visited frequently as we ran out of supplies.

You can walk down stairs along the hillside which takes you to the bay and see happy children and goats along the way. Nearby trails take you through the rain forest along rivers to picturesque waterfalls.

We had a taste of the community attending a fund-raising supper and dance event. Farron met some students who attend the school in Parlatuvier

Bea took us to watch some women from a church group bake bread wrapped in banana leaves in the traditional African beehive-shaped outdoor oven. We were fortunate to buy samples of their baked goods.

The hand made ice cream is delicious at Englishman´s Bay, a beautiful beach with local artists selling bamboo wind-chimes and crafts made of materials from this area.

Our day on the ocean and seeing the marine life was an exciting adventure. Valerie and I caught 2 albacore tuna which were cooked on the barbecue on the beach by the tour guide. It was a day to remember as the Sargent family (Win and Rosie from Tacoma) and our family shared this day. Me (a non-swimmer) and Farron and Valerie (sick-at-sea) returned to Gloucester Place to relax and rest realizing this is truly home away from home after having a very full day.

Our adventures were enjoyed, and many evenings, we relaxed in the family room to watch “Nimo”, “Polar Express” or other DVDs with Farron. The hosts and the guests did the last “togetherness” thing before ending another day in paradise. Thank you.
