Lillibets - Reader Reports & Opinion

Familiar House; Beautiful Surrounding

Michael & Svenja from Germany visited in April 2007 and awarded  Four out of Five

We stayed for two weeks in april 2007 in the Lillibets and we were really sad when we had to leave.

The Lillibets is on the eastern part of castara bay located.

The walking distance to the smaller one of the two castara beaches (heavenly beach) is about 3 minutes.

The house is build uphill so we had an outstanding view of castara, the beach and the rainforest from our balcony.

Every morning it was a great feeling to be woken up by the sound of the sea and the crying birds. The birds were permanent guests when we took our breakfast on the balcony and in the evening we observed bats.

The appartment was well equipped with everything we need. A coffee maker was not there but I think that will change in future.

There was only cold water for a shower available, which is normal for tobago, but never-theless you don`t need warm water because of the climate.

So over all everything was as we expected.

The owners Tom and Liz responded every question we had before immediately.

By chance they stayed there at the same time as we did. They are very friendly and uncomlicated.

One evening they arranged a BBQ for the guests and some locals and we had a wonderful time. The sundowners mixed by Tom were outstanding.

The local manager Bruce is a very funny guy who fulfilled us every wish.

Finally we had a wonderful time in a familiar house located in a beautiful surrounding with friendly people.

Thank you Tom and Liz.

Good Accommodation With Fantastic Views

Mary Galliers from U.K. visited in March 2007 and awarded  Four out of Five

The best thing about Lillibets is undoubtedly the vast view over Castara Bay – it really is magical. The appartments are some of the highest in the village and so command the best views and the large balcony is perfect to enjoy them.

The appartment is a good size for two adults and is well equipped with a full size oven and fridge freezer. The bed is comfortable and there is a good size wardrobe and chest of drawers. The bamboo armchairs aren't that comfortable – I have a bad back and had to use the pillows as extra cushions! The appartment was clean with linen changed halfway through our week's stay (although the pillows were a bit old and could have done with an extra pillowcase on them).

The appartments are within a few paces of the beach at Little Bay and are therefore very near the Boathouse restaurant for drinks and snacks during the day. Guests of Lillibets can also use the pool at the Angel Appartments. However, this pool is very small with limited seating and did not seem to get much sun. It is ideal for children though as it is fairly shallow. Lillibets is very near Alibaba's accommodation and, as it is fairly new, you may stand a chance of getting into Lillibets if Alibabs is fully booked – in fact, Steph from Alibabas suggested we try Lillibets as they were full during the week we wanted.

The worst things about Lillibets were the cold shower (no hot water anywhere in the appartment) and the huge number of stairs – especially on arrival day when you are hot and tired and have to carry your luggage and shopping..... The other aspect which could be a downside is that the balconies are shared between the two appartments on each floor. Our neighbours were lovely but the lack of privacy may not be right for everyone. Finally, I should mention the noisy neighbours at a nearby property who insisted on playing reggae loudly throughout much of our stay. When they hit the off button, we enjoyed the sound of the waves crashing on the beach and the wildlife.

I can't end my review without mentioning Bruce, the local man who looks after the appartments and the guests. He arranged everything we needed – transport from the airport, hire car and transport to Sunday School at Buccoo. All this was done with charm and a really friendly attitude – in fact, the "Bruce factor" encouraged me to rate Lillibets as 4 rather than 3.

Well Postioned With Great Views.

Gill Macnamee from U.K. visited in January 2007 and awarded  Three out of Five

Lillibets has comfortable, airy accomodation with fantastic views of Little bay in Castara.

Th outside space is superb with a huge terrace where we spent most of our time. Inside the space is adequate with well equipped kitchens and reasonable sitting areas, although with guests using the sofa beds in the living areas, due to the open roof architecture, sound travelled very freely!

The bedrooms were somewhat dark and cramped, being at the back of the property and would have benefited from more natural light. The recent addition of hot water in the showers was much appreciated.

Bruce, the host was delightful and very helpful and cheerful. We felt he would have helped us with anything we needed and was invaluable in helping us move our luggage up the many steps!

We would certainly return to Lillibets and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beatifully Positioned Apartments

Mike Northcott from U.K. visited in January 2007 and awarded  Four out of Five

9 of us stayed in the top two apartments and one of the lower apartments all of which were well furnished and equipped. The views in the morning of the hills the sea and the assortment of birds feeding were fantatstic. We had Bananquits/sugar birds, Blue/grey tanagers, green tanagers, Ant Shrikes, Shakalackas, and humming birds every day plus others we could not identify.

It was cool and relaxing to sit and eat breakfast or any meal on the verandha or dare I say to just lime with a beer or two or a rum.

One word of "warning", we were all fit and healthy but any visitor comtemplating this accomodation needs to be aware that the climb from ground level is not one for anyone who has mobility problems or is overweight or just plain elderly may find it a struggle. Indeed Castara is to be enjoyed at the Tobago pace, take it easy as there are hills to contend with to get anywhere. However it is a very relaxing, beautiful place where we were warmly welcomed by the locals, especially in the boathouse and Bruce Taylor who helped us with a few queries.

Good For The Money.

Dan Trojanowski from Canada visited in January 2007 and awarded  Three out of Five

My family and I just returned from a week long stay at Lillibet's. The accomodatiions are adequate and clean. Please be aware that the climb up to the apartments is not for the elderly or people who would have trouble walking up stairs, etc.....

The views from the balcony are spectacular.

Overall I would recommend it.
