Sweet Nest - Reader Reports & Opinion

Just Delightful

Valerie Wye from Canada visited in February 2008 and awarded  Five out of Five

My husband and I LOVED Sweet Nest. It was the best value we experienced during our month-long stay on Tobago. It is so cute and well equipped. There are lots of birds, including a mot-mot. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Stonehaven Bay (Grafton Beach) is a short walk, and it was a fabulous beach--large and beautiful with crashing waves that were so much fun to play in. The cafe on the beach served the best rum punches that we had during our holiday.

The only downside was the litter. On the walk from the beautiful cottage to the gorgeous beach, the roads were strewn with litter.

Wonderful Stay At Warm Breezes

I spent three nights and four days at the Villa Warm Breezes, which is part of Hibiscus Heights in Pleasant Prospect, Tobago. The Villa is extremely spacious and open with a wonderful ambiance. High ceilings and gorgeous four poster beds lend to the quaint charm of the Villa, so when you are there, you feel like you are in another world. Yet, Grafton Beach is minutes away and there is a bar and a newly opened restaurant (Fishpot) within walking distance. The living and dining areas are equipped with every amenity that is necessary to make your holiday a great one. There is also a wonderful view of the ocean from the balcony, as well as the garden with its arrray of tropical plants. There is a pool which is always inviting on a hot day.

The owners Gill and Paul Connelly are wonderful and accommodating hosts who ensure that everything is perfect for your holiday. I would highly recommend the Villa Warm Breezes.

Guest Report - Hibiscus Heights

Steve & Sheila Lauder from Canada visited in October 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

We had a blast in Tobago. The cottage was such a wonderful place to retire after a busy day of sight seeing – and so close to the beach. I was tempted to check out the bar down the street I think that was best left to another life time. I felt most at home evenings on the deck with a cigar and cold Carib (or two). The highlight of our trip was a hike, on our last day, in the rain forest to Argyle Falls with eco expert Mark Putty – he really knows his stuff. We got his number from an article he wrote in a newsprint left in the cottage.

I can't say enough about our gracious host. Super. And there support staff very efficient. You will not be disappointed.

We do hope to return to beautiful Tobago one day. And I hope that we can again enjoy your lovely cottage.

Hibiscus Heights - A Real Find.   25 Aug 2007

Wyn Emanuel from Wales UK visited in July 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

We booked the Sweet Nest at Hibiscus Heights for three nights – but liked it so much we stayed for three more. The accommodation is a single bedroom apartment in what looks as though it started out as a garage. But don't let that put you off. It feels spacious, is very clean, very white and has all the facilities you'll need. A new wicker chaise longue was just the thing for laying back and watching the late night movie.

The Sweet Nest has an excellent patio/ decking area which is spacious, with a table and chairs, sun umbrella, loungers and even a barbecue. But there isn't a much of a view, as it is surrounded by plaintains which provide the privacy. It was a real bonus to have this facility. All the greenness around you means you'll need plenty of anti-mozzie repellent, of course.

We were delighted with the location, as it is just a short distance to Stonehaven Bay (which we like) and also appreciated the value. The owners, Gill and Paul, were very charming and couldn't have been more helpful.

We visited the other apartments at Hibiscus Heights and they are very spacious, with excellent views – particularly the three-beds one on the top floor.

As Hibiscus Heights is just above the hamlet of Pleasant Prospect, it is quite a busy meeting place for local people. You may hear music from the nearby bar most evenings, but it wasn't too loud and usually ended fairly early. However, did wish violence on one person who blasted the whole area with deafening music one at about six o clock one morning. Fortunately, this happened only once.

There is a new restaurant at the bottom of the hill (the Fish Pot), which we liked. And as the fish market is a short distance away, we enjoyed buying our own and cooking at Sweet Nest.

Having stayed in various locations around the island, this was a favourite. We like trying new places, but would definitely consider coming back here.

Our Blissful Wedding Base

Naomi Neilson Howard from U.S.A. visited in March 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

We have the most wonderful memories of our stay at Hibiscus Heights. My then-fiance, now-husband and I booked it for our wedding trip, to accommodate us and many of our family and friends. Our group could not have been happier! The villa was perfect because there were plenty of spacious gathering areas but it also allowed for people to have comfortable privacy when desired. We loved Pleasant Prospect, from our previous Tobago trip, and those in our group fell in love with the village immediately as well. There are plenty of restaurants of all types just below the villa, the best beaches right down the street, and people so friendly that you can't help making friends that are hard to leave at the end of the trip.

Gill and Paul, the owners of the property who live on site on the middle level of the villa are absolutely wonderful. They were incredibly helpful with our rehearsal dinner (and many other details) just because they are kind and loving people--not because they had any responsibility or obligation for it. Very much in tune with the island overall.

We took the master bedroom upstairs for our honeymoon suite, and had friends and family in the other rooms as well as in the one-bedroom apartment below and the separate cottage. Everyone absolutely loved their rooms and the whole feel of the place. It was truly paradise--luxurious and homey at the same time. The huge wrap-around balcony upstairs was the main gathering place for us and even for our guests staying in other places...we had our rehearsal dinner there before the wedding along with several other meals and endless hours of birdwatching and relaxation. The pool was a great place to refresh and relax as well. But those views from the balcony--wow!

Waking up to the sounds of the tropical birds was absolute bliss. Watching the cocricos, blue taningers, motmots, banaquits and all the rest as they would try to pluck at the popos (small mangoes) on the tree reaching up by our balcony was endless entertainment. It was like visiting a bird sanctuary but we were living in it. I had never appreciated birds like this until Hibiscus Heights. We really enjoyed bananas and other fruit from the trees right there on the property, as well as the gorgeous tropical flowers all around us.

The one bedroom apartment in the middle level is really cute and spacious, with its own little front porch. The cottage below is also really adorable, with a good sized enclosed patio, very lush and tropical. As I said, everyone was thrilled with their rooms, there was not a thing to complain about. If you're really out of shape though, you may not like the hill or the stairs, but for most of us it was worth the little climb to be at such a striking vantage point where we could see the coastline and hear the ocean from our rooms and balcony.

We usually like to explore different places and areas but in this case we know that our top choice will be to return to Hibiscus Heights as soon as the opportunity arises!
