Arnos Vale Hotel - Reader Reports & Opinion
Our Opinion On Arnos Vale Hotel 05 Apr 2005
DoreenV from Wigan, UK
We stayed at Arnos Vale Hotel from 11-18 March 05 and these are our views.
The birds are magnificent, so many species and so little time. We thought the beach was very good, but was a little steep. Also the sea could be a bit rough at times. The snorkelling was great but the sea can be a bit unpredicable to say the least.
The food at dinner, apart from one night was first class. Lunch was a bit of a disappointment at times, but OK overall. Breakfast was good apart from pre-cooked "scrambled" eggs.
The hotel generally was very good but our room needed a lot of tlc. The staff were very pleasant, very friendly and very efficient. "Many thanks to Christian for all your help".
Overall a great holiday, but the toilet facilities on the beach (which are part of the hotel restaurant building so I presume were run by them) constantly leaked from around the back somewhere and were consequently in an almost permanent state of flood. It took three days for them to be cleaned in one instance and the smell was not very nice.
Apart from the little problems (all easily rectifiable) we thought Arnos Vale was a great place with stunning scenery, a remarkable abundance and variety of plant and animal life. We had a great time and plan to return again in the future.
Hope this has been of some help.

Arno Vale Visit 11 Mar 2005

I came back after 23+ years hoping to enjoy those aspects of Arnos Vale that made it so special – the birds, the snorkeling, and the setting.
I wasn't disappointed. The birds were spectacular, the snorkeling was the best "off the beach" I have experienced in 30 yeas of travel in the Caribbean, and the setting is still the lush, unspoiled spot I remember.
My wife, Andi, and I stayed in two classes of rooms -an unremodeled Pool View room (on the beach level) and a lovely renovated junior suite called Crow's Nest on (top of) the hill. The lower was spartan and depressing. The higher was a delight and worth the 255 steps to the beach. Luckily for us most of the stay was on high watching birds, sunsets, and capturing the breezes. Crow's Nest had a new bathroom, 4 poster bed, and mini bar, and overall a worthwhile upgrade.
We were on the full meal plan, and based on our personal expectations, we were disappointed. While other enjoyed heaping plates from the buffet, we found the food uninspired but not bad. To the point that we went out 3 nights to other restaurants (La Tataruga was the standout of the bunch).
Staff was pleasant and cooperative but unsophisticated, and at times clueless, esp. at lunch at the beach bar. Ken and his management staff are obviously trying to inspire a higher grade of attentiveness, and from what I have read here, it's better than before. I hope he keeps up the good work.
Overall the trip was a real success. We met some wonderful couples. The island is the treasure I remembered (with the roads much better – in spite of the mudslide repair crews with monsterously wide trucks), and Arnos Vales well worth the stay.

Hi,
we are 6 friends that are going to Tobago in July. We have never been to this island, and we hope that someone can give us some great tips about places to stay (reasonable prices). Other tips about what seems to be a beautful island are highly appreciated.
Great forum!
Thanks in advance
Best Regards

Charging To Room 11 Feb 2005
DoreenV from Wigan, UK
Hello,
Can anyone tell me whether drinks etc. can be charged to your room or do they have to be purchased in cash. We are just trying to work out how much currency we will need to take. We have the full meal plan if this makes any difference.
Thanks, Doreen

Guest Services At Arnos Vale 25 Jan 2005
DoreenV from Wigan, UK
Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if the usual facilities are available at Arnos Vale – i.e. room towels, beach towels, shower gel, coffee/tea making facilities etc. Also how far are the nearest shops selling water, soft drinks, alcohol etc.
Is it possible to buy large bottles of water at the hotel and if so how much do they cost.
Thanks in anticipation of your reply.
Doreen
