Arnos Vale Hotel - Reader Reports & Opinion

Arnos Vale Hotel   09 Oct 2004

K Butterworth from UK

My wife and I stayed here for a fortnight in September 2004. It was our first visit to Tobago, and the hotel proved excellent: the grounds were beautiful, the bay was superb for swimming and snorkelling, the whole staff were very pleasant and helpful, and the room we had (by the pool) was efficiently air-conditioned . Breakfasts were first-rate, with a wide ranging buffet. Our only criticism is that dinners, though very good, were expensive, and items on the menu weren't separately priced. Needless to say the whole hotel area was a paradise for birders! The hurricane struck the island a "glancing blow" during our stay, and many trees in the grounds and on the approach roads were toppled. But the staff were highly competent and helpful throughout: they gave due warnings (and candles) and cleared the damage rapidly. :D

Arnos Vale   14 Aug 2004

Am thinking about returning to Arnos Vale after a 20 year absence. The few reviews sound encouraging that it is regaining its old reputation. I haven't seen anything lately, and am wondering if it is just unknown after years of being sub par. I would appreciate any comments or other suggestions that have some of the features that make Arnos vale so special, i.e. snorkeling, birds, gardens, etc.

Accomodations On Tobago   27 Jul 2004

Cleone R from Utah, USA

What a great site this is. I am glad to have found it. I am putting together a trip to Tobago in March 2005 and need some direction from people who have been there. After researching on the web and travel books I am more confused than ever on where to stay. Coco Reef and Blue Haven are just more than I want to spend, but their location and beaches look great. What would be a good compromise? Looking for a great beach, not too commercial, rooms with oceanview which are clean and not too small. We aren't into food much, we like to spend our money on scuba diving and exploring. I have read some of the comments on the Arnos Vale Hotel and I think this might be a good choice for our price point. We are basically looking for great value for our money (who isn't!).

Thanks in advance for any help.

Arnos Vale Resort   01 Apr 2004

Peter Martin from Germany

Having stayed at Arnos Vale Hotel exactly a year ago, my wife and I decided to return this year and we have no regrets as we enjoyed a truly beautiful and relaxing 2-weeks holiday there last month.Athough we liked the feel and excellent location of the property last year we had some hesitations to return as the quality of the Italian management, service and food was quite mediocre. When learning, however, that the resort had a change of management we decided to book and are glad we did, as.... 'what a change'!!! The hotel had undergone a complete renovation and refurbishment program, with beautifully appointed rooms, new furniture, drapes, linnen and towels, china, glassware and all. It is now operated by the owners and managed by a very pleasant German gentleman, Melissa, the very efficient Trini Assistant Manager, Brian the Food Manager and a new excellent kitchen brigade. The friendly ever smiling staff were another great asset making our stay even more enjoyable and comfortable. We had for 2 weeks beautiful weather, enjoyed the great beach, the snorkelling is some of the best of the island, the lovely tropical gardens with a huge variety of birds – the highlight every afternoon was the 'afternoon tea bird feeding ceremony' – not to be missed. Overall, this was one of the best holidays we had, after having sampled quite a number of other Caribbean islands and hotels over the years – a great experience and we will be back for sure! :D
