Alibaba's Sea Breeze - Reader Reports & Opinion
Great View And Location - Nice Hosts

Loved this place – Steph is a great host (Brian was working on his boat so saw little of him) and the location can't be beat – the apartments are basic but comfortable, clean and well laid out – we spent the entire time out on the balcony – you are up off the ground and feel safe (we did anyway) leaving the door open – kitchen is just off the balcony so could fix dinner and never lose sight of the wonderfull view – there is a net on the bed to keep the flying insects away – in our 5 weeks on the island this was one of our top 2 places to stay
will be back here next year

Guest Report - Alibaba's Sea Breeze

My daughter and I spent a week here, ans then a week on the other end of the island. We loved the Sea Breeze- the friendly owners Stephanie and Brian; the amazing view of the beach below; the sound of the water; and the town itself. Castara is one of our favorite places. I would come and stay at Ali Baba's again, and hope to at some point.

My wife and I stayed at Alibaba's the first week in May of 2007 and found a delightful place and delightful people to go with it. There may be more accomodating people on the planet than Brian and Stephanie, but I haven't encountered them yet. We corresponded with them via e-mail for our reservations after reading about them in this forum and discovered they had a cat. We told them we would stay but only on condition they loan us the cat for our stay, which they did :-). Their place is just magic and the wonderful people we met in the other apartments were fun to hang out with. The five of us hired a car and got one of the Brits to drive as she was accustomed to driving on the "wrong" side of the road. Our group also did a snorkeling expedition together with Alibaba's tours and had a terrific time with Captain Anaconda as the skipper for the voyage. The expedition included a beach picnic with great food and scenic boat riding. <---Highly recommended if you don't do anything else in Castara, do this.
There are numerous restaurants in Castara and the Boathouse Restaurant which is on the beach right next door to Alibaba's is very accomodating also. Sharon will fix you an excellent meal until pretty late at night.
Two words of caution to Americans. If you rise early and expect breakfast at one of the restaurants, you will be sorely disappointed. You need to either stop on the way to Castara and buy coffee, soda, or whatever your eye opener is, or you ain't gonna get any. There ain't any soda machines on the beach either. Nothing opens until 9:00 AM or so and I do mean nothing. This is not a criticism, it is just a fact. Second, you also need to buy some basic food on your way in if you want to cook any meaningful meals in your apartment. Alibaba's is well equipped for cooking your own meals, there just aren't any supermarkets in Castara. Brian will provide transport to Castara from the airport and there are excellent markets on the way.
Castara is a laid back place where children can run around in safety, there is no noise on the beach, no peddlers selling junk, beaches are absolutely immaculate and kept so by the people who live there. I hope they can keep it this way forever.
I will be back there as soon as possible. Planning it now!

Guest Report - Alibaba's Sea Breeze

I greatly enjoyed the week (March 21-28, 2007) I spent at Alibaba's Seabreeze. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxed and unconventional stay in lush tropical surroundings. The owners Steph and Brian are really most hospitable and helpful and do whatever the can in order to make their guests feel at home. Pickup service at the airport can be arranged as well as transport to other destinations on the island.
The room I stayed in was the family appartment which consists of a bathroom, bedroom, kitchen/living room and a balcony with a gorgeous view across the bay. There is a very welcome mosquito netting covering the lower double bed, although there were less mosquitoes than I expected; sand flies on the beach are a greater problem or are they called sand fleas?
There was a ceiling fan plus a small fan mounted on a shelf on the bedroom wall which was quite sufficient in terms of cooling.
Since there are no meals provided at Alibaba's Seabreeze it is impotant to do some shopping before you arrive in Castara since the local opportunities are somewhat limited (although I remember lots of fresh fruit in the local shops). Best consider what you might need before you arrive (for example I bought far too much coffee). For dinner the Boathouse is just a few steps away. I had mainly fish there; the tables at the front have a nice view across the bay. The other restaurants (I tried Cascreole and Marguerite's) require a little walk into town which is no great distance but involves quite some uphill and downhill walking (good exercise after a day at the beach).
Rainforest tours or snorkelling excursions can be arranged on request. Be prepared to meet all kinds of bird life (there are feeding places on the balcony which attracts pigeons and bananaquits, you can see hummingbirds in the rainforest). For snorkelling the beach at Little Bay is quite good (I saw some French Angelfish as well as two giant Stingrays) although the water can be a bit murky after rainy periods. A short walk takes you to the Castara waterfall where I met an enormous blue butterfly.

I travel alot and throwing darts on a map is my way of adventure. I choose to goto tobago and stay at the alibaba sea breeze since it was close to the water and as close to a beach hut that I could find. It was clean with a bathroom and kitchen and it was great. I will go back there again for sure. Tobago is in my opinion is what hawaii used to be before all the hotels sprang up. I really enjoyed castara, people are nice with good little resturants to eat at.
The snorkeling is second to none and englishman bay was my favorite, but everywhere I went I could snorkel right off the beach and see thousands of fish, turtles, ect.
I give tobago a big thumbs up
