Alibaba's Sea Breeze - Reader Reports & Opinion

Sea Breeze Is Wonderful

Gill Kopy from Canada visited in March 2007 and awarded  Four out of Five

Sea Breeze certainly lives up to its reputation – the view, the location, the very well equipped apartment. We had the MotMot suite which was comfy for two, but would be a bit tight for more and we would also have enjoyed two comfy chairs for the porch. BUT, swims before breakfast, tours of the rain forest, fabulous snorkelling right on the beach – we loved it.

Why Do Holidays Have To Finish?

Tina & Brian Davies from U.K. visited in March 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

We have been back in England now a week and we still hear the waves of Castara Bay hitting the beach just below the apartments and lulling us to sleep.

We spend 2 wonderful weeks in the apartment "motmot" with our 2 grownup sons in the apartment next to us. From the moment we arrived at the airport and were met by the friendly smiling face of Brian "AliBaba" Taylor and one of his drivers who collected us and our luggage in 2 vehicles we were made to feel very welcome.

At the apartments itself it was wonderful to sit on the veranda and soak in the atmosphere and listening to the afore mentioned waves, watching the multitude of birds visiting us and enjoying our hosts's small kitten popping in now and again for a visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed the close proximity of the beach and the reef, and for us snorkelers it was an added bonus that there is a family of stingrays living in the bay who more than once put on a such a wonderful display that we felt as if in a National Geographic documentary. Oh, did I mention that we also saw a turtle, barracudas, loads and loads of angelfish, trunkfish, parrotfish, rock-hopper beauties and all the other "usual suspects" of a caribbean reef, and all that just feet away from our apartment.

Those apartments had really everything we needed; quite spacious, comfortable beds, cleaning service and change of bedlinen and towels every 3rd day, supply even of beachtowels, and the owners Brian "Alibaba" and Stephanie Taylor were always at hand if needed.

Should we ever be fortunate enough to come back to Tobago, we know we will be back at the Seabreeze in Castara.

Guest Report -

Brenda Bell from Canada visited in February 2007 and awarded  Four out of Five

My husband and I stayed at this multiple-unit beach house for one week. It was very basic and rustic. It had a gas stove and small fridge and a toaster. It did not have a TV or a radio. It had open-air windows overlooking the beach. It had a beautiful deck overlooking the water with a comfy hammock. It had no air conditioning, but it was not really needed because of the breeze from the sea. The shower had warm water which was adequate. The bed had a functional mosquito net which was required if you read at night because the bugs would come into your room as they were attracted to the light. Alibaba and his wife were very gracious and accommodating.

The beach was amazing! It was private. You can snorkle and see many fishes. The beach restaurant had decent food when it was opened. There is an internet cafe nearby, but it does not have regular hours. The fishermen bring in their fresh catch daily – bring your own baggy if you wish to purchase some. The bakery ladies make awesome bread but it must be preordered or you will not get any. These ladies hate to have their picture taken so do not even show them a camera! If coming from Crown Point, I suggest stopping at the local grocery store to purchase your supplies as they are very limited in Castara.

We did not feel particularly safe walking the streets of Castara at night. It was very dark and the town is so small that the locals know you are a tourist. Most locals are very friendly, but you just don't want to take any chances.

There is a waterfall nearby that you can walk to. Just ask the locals how to get there. You can also take a short drive to the rainforest.

We enjoyed our stay at Alibaba's, but we would not go back simply because we found it too boring at night. There was just nothing to do! Some people may like that, but we didn't. Six nights felt like forever!

Fabulous Location And Friendly Village

LINDA ALLEN from U.K. visited in February 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

A friend and I have just returned from a week at Sea Breeze – what a superb positon right on the beach. The accomodation was exactly as shown on the website, but the photos do not do justice to the superb view from the balcony. Watching the Pelicans diving and the local men fishing in the bay as we ate our breakfast every morning was magical, and the sunsets are to die for!

Steph and Brian are excellent hosts, the apartment was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. The several restaurants in the village serve good food at reasonable prices, with the Boathouse right next door being very convenient! The local people are so friendly, we loved walking round the village and hearing a friendly "good morning" from everyone we met.

It was our first visit to the island, so we hired a car and explored the many other lovely beaches, but always came back to Castara to watch the sun go down. The many hotels on the island are undoubtedly good, but we much prefered being part of a local community, even if only for a short while.

All in all a perfect place for a relaxing escape from the wintry weather at home.

Alibabas Seabreeze - As Good As It Gets

Bill Brunner (Bill B) from U.S.A. visited in January 2007 and awarded  Five out of Five

Mary Lou and I stayed at Seabreeze Jan 15-19 and had a ball. Steph & Brian are friendly and helpful and did everything necessary to make our stay enjoyable. The accomodations are as previously reported by others; basic but very clean and comfortable. The view from the balcony is to die for and access to the beach and to The Boathouse Bar is very convenient. At the rate charged one could not ask for a nicer place to stay. We would highly recommend Castara and Seabreeze to anyone who wants to have an authentic Caribbean holiday.
