Bananaquit was our first stop during our week in Tobago. Having never been to the island before I relied very heavily on this website while making the plans. Wanting to explore as much of the island as we could we planned to stay the first few nights at the southern end of the island, and the end of the week up north.
We stayed at Bananaquit for the first four nights. Upon arriving a the airport close to 9pm on a Saturday night we found we could have EASILY walked to the Bananaquit with our luggage, seriously maybe a 6 min. walk, don't waste money on a cab. We stayed in a second floor loft apartment. It had 2 beds with A/C that we never turned on, fan, TV & closet upstairs, kitchen, bathroom, sofa (which was a pull out bed) and balcony on the lower level of the apartment. We were super pleased with the amenities: big fridge, microwave, toaster oven and 2 burner electric hot plate. All the cooking and eating utensils you could want. Great water pressure and hot water in the bathroom. The apartments all look out over a cute courtyard with the coolest little chicken roaming there. The property in back of Bananaquit houses goats and sheep, however this added to the charm, there was no odor and the animals were relatively quiet. Our first morning at Bananaquit we were almost annoyed with the birds and all their chirping, then realized how nice it was to hear these sounds of nature. We did rent a car, which made it easier to go to Penny Savers, the local grocery store, but walked to Store Bay Beach, which is only about a 5 min walk. Also, very walk able to a few nice restaurants, convenience store, etc... There are a few parking spots inside the gate at Bananaquit, otherwise street parking works just fine too. The hotel next door has a great little pool that guests of Bananaquit can use. Don't worry about the noise being right next to the airport, it's a non-issue. I think the busiest day we heard 2 planes, maybe!
All in all, no real negatives about the place. If I had to choose something I'd say screens would have been nice in the sliding glass door and windows, I did leave with a fair number of mosquito bites. A colander would have helped in the pasta draining challenge. Otherwise can't think of any complaints. Bananaquit made a great place for us to use as a home base. We were able to explore the lowlands easily and return each night. We felt very safe (two single American girls) in the neighborhood even when walking past the local bars at the end of the road. You can't go wrong staying here!!!
Convenient, Clean And Friendly

This was our first visit to Bananaquit. It is convenient for the airport, local restaurants, Store Bay, and Pigeon Point is a pleasant stroll away. The owners are extremely friendly and very helpful. Our room was kept spotlessly clean and the bedding is changed regularly. It shares a lovely pool with the adjacent hotel. This is not the place for 5 star luxury but they were pretty well booked up, so that indicates what people think of the place. Make your reservations early. We will certainly be back again.

I've stayed in this guest house twice in the past year. I found the property to be adequate to my needs. Close to the airport, affordable, self catering and helpful owners. I would suggest this place to anyone in the market for an affordable self catering room.

We arrived at the Banaquit after having to leave our booked accommodation in Castara in a hurry as we needed to be in Crown Point for family reasons. We literally got dropped off at the airport with our bags and no where to stay! Luckily, I had read lots of information on this website before going to Tobago, and so had a few ideas as to where to look for accommodation.
I enquired in person as to availability and price at Banaquit, whilst my boyfriend waited outside with our bags! I was greeted by the very friendly and helpful owner, who offered the lowest price of anywhere we tried, (there were a lot!) and allowed us to check in immediately, a big relief I have to say!
The apartments were excellent value, and really saved the end of our holiday. The apartment itself was large, with a perfectly adequate kitchen and bathroom, clean towels and effective air-conditioning. I really liked the private terrace outside, with the a table and chairs, overlooking a garden area with a mango tree. There was also access from this garden area to the adjacent hotels swimming pool, through a pretty gateway, which was available for our use. This pool was clean and plenty big enough, a real bonus in budget accommodation of this type. The apartment was set back from the road and shielded by the owners house, and so experienced little noise despite its very central and convenient location. Nothing was more then a walk away, from two of the best beaches on the island, Pigeon Point and Store Bay, to numerous restaurants to suit any budget, and the airport itself.
All in all, these apartments are a great budget option, with all the necessities in a great location and the benefit of a nice pool and helpful friendly owners. The only criticism I can think of is that they are a little dated, and could probably do with an overhaul to prevent them becoming a little shabby.

Fantastic, we stayed in the large front room that had a large nook that could sleep about 10 people, it also has a bedroom with A/C on the main floor, plus a kitchenet with stove and fridge plus all the utensils necessary.
It was very close to the beache (Store Bay), 10 min walk but most of all the Bests were great hosts.
We were able to rent a vehicle just opposite where we were and there were a lot of food outlets availble.
We enjoyed so much that we always recommend it to our family and friends in Trinidad and Canada.
