Blue Waters Inn - Reader Reports & Opinion

Trip Report   26 Oct 2005

Blue Waters Inn:

BWI was fine but showing its age, which is expected. Rooms were spacious and clean. The restaurant was good, not great, and a bit expensive for the quality of the food; quantity was good. BWI is located in it's own bay (Battaux Bay?), so the location and scenery are excellent, which makes up for other shortcomings. And the staff were very friendly, which also goes a long way.

Hi there 8)

We just got back from a week in Tobago (man, those post-holiday blues are tough to ignore!) staying in Blue Waters. We didn't get to see Duane as he was in the UK during that week, but we had such a WONDERFUL time. Again (we stayed there last year).

Highlight of the week for me: kayaking in the bay, drifting peacefully for a moment and soaking in the surroundings, as i was doing so a turtle swam up to the kayak before popping its head above water (as if to say hello!) then slowly swimming away.... :) :) :)

Next best thing: drift snorkeling trip with Frank in front of Little Tobago. Gorgeous – so much to see (and another turtle)...

As always the staff were lovely, the smoothies and rum cocktails were top. And oh it hurts to look back as I am sat in my City of London office...

Still, we are so lucky to live such things, and know such places at all.

Cheers Blue Waters – i know we will be back :D

My Thoughts   27 Aug 2005

Returned recently from a week staying at BWI. After the long 90 minute drive from the aiport we settled in to a peaceful week of sun and sea (yes, the sun did shine most of the time for those that worry about the weather  ). The rooms are very basic but I like that as it encourages you to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Great views of Little Tobago from the rooms.

We went on a tour of the forest with Newton George who was excellent – we're not birders but found his easy going style perfect. Also went Sea Kayaking from Charlotesville which was great fun and included excellent snorkelling. Our favourite beach was Pirates Bay which has good snorkelling too. The snorkelling at BWI was not so great because of poor visibility but there are nice fans and other corals on the right of the bay. We took a Franks glassbottom boat trip for more snorkelling – in fact it's more of a snorkelling trip than a glassbottom boat trip if you get my drift. Excellent snorkelling out by Little Tobago and Angel reef (can you tell we like snorkelling :D :?:

Food was okish at the restaurant at BWI and the flying fish sandwiches at the Bar were very good. Staff at the bar made you as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit but don't let that put you off. I think it's their way of showing affection  Good mix of guests at BWI – a few singlies, couples, and families. Hiring a car for a couple of days was enough to see the island before wanting to return to the peace and tranquility of BWI. Speyside is very small but I can highly recommend Speyside Inn for dinner – excellent food and the menu changes nightly – very good service too. We also liked Birdwatchers as it was very relaxing and a great price for lobster!

8) Thumbs up for BWI and Tobago.

Fishing?   01 Aug 2005

Steve Brewer from USA

Hello! My girlfriend and I shall be visiting Blue Waters Inn later in the month and are very much looking forward to the trip. As this is our first time, can anyone tell me if it is worthwhile to bring fishing rods/tackle with us? Are there boats/guides for hire to go after pelagics, grouper, or snapper? Will the restaraunt cook any fish we might be lucky enough to catch (for a fee, of course)? Thanks for any information.
