We had a wonderful stay at the Castara Retreats in September. We only stayed a few days and wished we had skipped other places on the island and stayed here the entire trip.
The apartments are perfect for a relaxing holiday and the people of Castara are so friendly and helpful. We were smitten from the moment we arrived.
The apartments are a short hike up a rather steep hill, but the view was well worth it. We enjoyed sitting on our porch and watching the many birds that came by as well as looking down onto the beautiful bay. We left our shutters open almost the entire trip so that we could see and hear what was happening.
The apartments are minimal, but they have everything you need to be comfortable and quite at home. We loved being able to eat out as well as being able to cook fish that we found at the fish market.
Porridge was every bit as wonderful and welcoming as the other reviewers have described. We cannot wait to return to Castara for another low key, relaxing holiday.

The whole world I had to travel to before I met this! I never-nevvvver-nevvver had lived in a such wonderful paradise place like this. From morning to darkness you have be best, biggest Tele screen in front of you: The view to the blue sea, the light colored beach of Castara and the fine green of the lucious plants in the garden. There can't be more relaxation at all! Adicted to the waves sounds I even left my bedroom door open to hear the sound all night.
Also the house, the equipment itself is perfectly in best condition. The houses have atmosphere and a soul. The soul of the vast, wide and big heart of the owners and their friends who take care of the amenities. Very big Congratulations to such a perfect realisation of a dream!

Nature, authenticité, amitié, découvert, odeurs des caraïbes, couleurs, fruits, faune et flore réunis avec charme, classe et un certain incomparable je-ne-sais-quoi....c´est là où le paradis rencontre le savoir-vivre.......Castara Retreats
Si vous avez la chance de pouvoir découvrir, vivre et explorer la vie, le quotidien et les secrets pertinents et relaxant de l´ile de Tobago (et nous vous le conseillons fortement..il faut y aller sans aucun doute, cette ile vous offre un souvenir inoubliable), il y un endroit, un petit coin du paradis qui vous permet de plonger au cœur d´une tranquillité, au milieu d´une beauté naturelle loin du tourisme habituel sans réfuser au comfort irréprochable qu´on désire lors de ses vacances.
Ce coin s´appelle Castara, un village de pêcheurs authentique, charmant, attirant et incomparable qui vous ensorcelle de sa pureté. A l´entrée de ce village miraculeux, en hauteur, caché dans les plantations du paradis, mais offrant une vue de rêve sur la baie et sur l´horizon qui se réunisse avec l´océan dansant, se trouvent les logement Castara Retreats.
Ces logements sont un hommage au savoir vivre, au bon gout, à la classe, tout simplement on s´y sent chez soi et au delà encore .....home sweet home....un regret de s´en aller quand on y est resté.....
Avant de rester au Castara Retreats, nous avons eu un autre logement pour une semaine, mais HEUREUSEMENT pour les 2 dernières semaines de notre séjour, nous avions réservé chez Sue et Steve (les propriétaires de Castara Retreats qui viennent du pays de Galle). Si on compare le premier logement (inutile d´évoquer le nom car il ne faut pas y rester!) avec les appartement Castara Retreats, il n´y a pas de photo : Castara Retreats n´est pas seulement un logement de haute gamme, bien sur vous y trouvez tout le confort, c´est propre, et esthétiquement charmant, mais avant tout il est important que tous les détails sont pris en compte, vous trouveriez un logement qui vous fait sentir chez vous.....vous profitez sur votre terrasse du coucher de soleil après une longue journée de plongée, de promenade- escalade aux chutes d´eau ou à la plage, et le bois de votre appartement reflète tous les couleurs du coucher de soleil et quand vous marchez pieds-nus dans votre cuisine pour vous chercher un apéro ou un fruit fraiche récolté du jardin et vous jetez un regard à l´intérieur de pièces, vous savez que c´est exactement à cet endroit où vous voulez passer vos vacances car il y manque rien, c´est le bonheur sublime. L´architecture extérieure et intérieure sont doux et sensiblement réfléchis afin de permettre une communion avec la nature qui l ´entoure. Le salon spacieux avec ses canapés confortables qui donnent envie de lézarder ou bouquiner, la chambre avec son grand lit riche en coussins et équipé avec un matelas qui est digne de ce nom et entouré d´un mousquetaire propre et efficace (je vous épargne la description du premier logement avant qu´on aille au Castara Retreats car ce premier logement évoquait un dégout et il fallait le nettoyer de nos propres mains avant y vouloir rester), la salle de bain luxurieusement organisé, la cuisine (rien y manque pour déguster et préparer des plats et petits-déjeuner inoubliables).......bref, si vous voulez vivre un rêve sur cette ile de rêve, vous n´avez pas de choix.....Castara Retreats vous donne un chez vous qui vous fait oublier le quotidien, tout en gardant votre vie privée car chacun de logement est crée de telle manière que vous êtes proches de tout, tout en respectant votre coin caché....tout en aspirant la liberté d´être......si vous avez vu une seule fois le ciel de votre terrasse la nuit, ce ciel avec tous les étoiles vous ne l´oublierez jamais et vous vous demandez si ce n´était pas Sue et Steve qui les ont mis au ciel pour vous rendre encore plus heureux......un endroit à ne pas manquer!!!un must....
merci à la vie que nous avons pu trouver cet endroit....Castara et Castara Retreats nous ont offert des superbes vacances......on y retournera, ça c´est sur!

We had a truly wonderful time at Castara, easily the most beautiful location on the island. It's a sleepy fishing village and if relaxation is what you are looking for then don't bother finding anywhere else. What makes it stand out is that they have a fantastic manager who can provide whatever bespoke trip you want, whether that be by boat, hiring a jeep hire, going turtle watching or anything else. Just ask for 'Porridge' and I bet he will be able to facilitate that. The apartments are lovely and well looked after. But it is the location and unrivalled view that really make the stay memorable.

We had a brilliant two weeks at Castara Retreats in May.
Hummingbird 1 has a wonderful view of the bay and beach and we spent a great deal of time watching the boats go in and out, the stingrays crossing the bay, the birds coming to feed or the sun go down over the sea. The apartment had everything we needed, including an outdoor as well as an indoor shower. Every few days it was cleaned and the sheets and towels changed, which was great given the climate. Porridge, Jeanelle, and their team made sure we knew how to get anything we needed, including food and excursions, and Carrington the gardener was lovely in supplying fruit fresh from the garden.
We especially appreciated Porridge taking the time one evening to come let us all know that a leatherback turtle had come up to nest on the beach. Not everywhere cares about its guests that much☺ On the final day, having shower and changing facilities made all the difference after the beach when preparing for the long flight home.
Castara itself is a lovely location – the beach and snorkelling are great and the people very friendly in the nicest way. We travelled the island but could happily have spent most of our time just in the village.
We will definitely be back as soon as possible.
