Hummingbird Heights - Reader Reports & Opinion
Hummingbird Heights 26 Jul 2005
Annette Scott from UK
We have just returned from a wonderful two weeks at "Hummingbird Heights".
Shirley is the "hostess with the mostest", starting with the flying fish sandwiches on arrival and continuing throughout the holiday with advice and ideas.
The property has amazing views over the Atlantic coast and a beautiful large swimming pool, set amongst a tropical garden.
We hired two jeeps from Shirley and explored most of the "paradise" island.
We will definately be back!!!

Second Visit - Just Gets Better! 06 Jun 2005
Linda P from Northampton, England
Hi All
We have just returned from our second visit to Hummingbird Heights.
First the most important piece of information – there is now A POOLSIDE CLOAKROOM AND SHOWER!!!!!!!
Those who have visited HBH before this addition will appreciate it's value!
Ok, back to the start, we were a party of nine this year, including my two Daughters, aged 8 and 10. We were met at the airport by Shirley, our hostess, Alex, her assistant/chauffeur/handyman and Elaine, a friend roped in for the trip who had a pick-up with lots of luggage space! We took the scenic route back to HBH on the outskirts of Scarborough, along the Shirvan road, giving tantalising glimpses of the sea to the Tobago Newbies among us.
When we arrived at HBH Alex helped to carry our luggage up to the apartments,we had already advised our companions to pack swimming attire at the top of their suitcases and made straight for the large pool. The size of this pool, considering we filled the apartment and B&B to capacity is amazing, as are the views of the surrounding gardens and the sea. Shirley introduced us to her friend Jenny and the cutest little girl on the island, Jenny's 6 yr old Daughter, Christine. (who we all instantly fell in love with!) While Christine entertained my Daughters, Jenny, who is arguably the best cook on the island prepared our flying fish sandwiches now a HBH welcome party tradition. I don't know when we all retired that first night, but I do know that we all felt totally at home in our new surroundings.
Throughout the holiday Shirley was a wonderful hostess, on hand when we needed her without being too pushy (accepting the fact that for some of us this was our second or third visit, so we did not need as much advice as some newcomers may). Shirley is also an excellent late night drinking partner (sorry about the extra strong rum punch we made you!). I married my lovely hubby Dave while we were there this year, shirley allowed us to throw a bbq reception for the 9 of us at HBH plus various other guests, her and Alex helped with preparations before and on the day, and with transport on the day and helped to make the whole day go smoothly – Thank you again Shirley and Alex.
Another special occasion whilst we were there was my daughter's 11th birthday, we invited Jenny and Daughter 'Christine the cutie', Jenny arrived with home cooked food – every bit as delicious as her flying fish! Ordered pizza over the phone for us! and even braided both of my Daughters hair for them! ( I had to persuade her to take some payment for this!!!).
I would advise anybody to visit HBH, this truly is a home from home. Yes it is slightly off the beaten track if you want the 'bright lights' of Crown point, but Shirley has jeeps for hire and Alex seems to be available 24/7 for 'taxi' duties. The stairs to the apartments are a bit daunting, but trust me they do get easier and are fine unless you have moblity problems.
We will be booking for our wedding anniversary,
Linda P

Hummingbird Heights Reports 13 Mar 2005

We stayed at Hummingbird Heights apartment for a week in February 2005 and would highly recommend it for other families or two couples. The views from the balcony were wonderful and we especially liked the large private pool – a great addition for those with children. The pool is lit up at night and the warm evening temperatures make a night swim very welcome. The main living area/kitchen is well equipped, spacious, airy and bright. The bedrooms were comfortable and roomy with lots of cupboard space.
We would suggest that a car rental be arranged to make your trip more enjoyable. Tobago has so many beautiful beaches and other interesting areas such as waterfalls, the rainforest etc. A week was truly not enough.. so much to see and so little time. Plus it was hard to pull ourselves away from the sparkling pool each morning.
Arnos Vale Beach (great snorkelling) and Bacolet Bay (gradual drop off for safe swimming) were a couple of our favourite places. Englishmans Bay was very tropical and pretty but rough water when we were there. The roads were well marked and in good condition compared to many other Caribbean islands where we have rental cars.
If you are looking for a good quality, self-catering apartment in Tobago, you can't go wrong with Hummingbird Heights.

Can't Wait To Return 25 Jun 2004

We have just returned from a wonderful two weeks at Hummingbird Heights and cannot praise the place and our hosts, Neil and Tracey enough. (Neil and Tracey alternate with Shirley in looking after the property and their guests)
From the moment we were met at the airport we were made to feel more like friends at a house party than paying guests. Ice cold rum punch (juice or beer if you prefer) was provided as soon as we arrived and our cases were taken upstairs for us, the pool looks much bigger when you see it for real than in the photo's, I have seen smaller pools at hotels catering for five times as many people!
The rooms are clean, beautifully decorated and very comfortable, although not air-conditioned we did not find this a problem and we did have ceiling fans. In addition to the famous flying fish sandwiches the fridge was stocked ready for breakfast the next day and we were given directions to local supermarkets, and the small shop at the bottom of the road, ideal for frequent trips to replenish the supplies of Carib!! There is a large fridge in the pool area which we kept very well stocked, I think I even spotted some food in there once!
Grouch, the gardener/handyman is great fun and became a good friend, as did Neil and Tracey, he even cooked barbecues for us on two occasions! the food was delicious and highly recomended, ask for directions to the farm shop for really good meat at low prices. Grouch is also an artist, he hand painted t-shirts and a wrap for us, he also does incredible sand art in Carib bottles – what more perfect souvenir could you have?!
We have just booked to return next year for our wedding, we only want an informal service and reception for a few guests, Neil and Shirley have agreed to let us use the pool area and reccomended a caterer.
I am sure that we will be enjoying many more holidays at Hummingbird Heights and reccomend anyone else to visit.

Holiday At Hummingbird Heights 14 Apr 2004
Margaret Parsons from UK
We have recently enjoyed a two weeks B&B holiday at Hummingbird Heights, Scarborough. After we had arrived at the airport, Shirley, who owns the apartments, welcomed us with a jug of rum punch & flying fish sandwiches alongside the beautiful pool surrounded by tropical flowers.
The following morning Shirley gave up her time to show us various landmarks, beaches, bars & supermarkets.
We fully recommend Hummingbirds Heights for friendly personal service & attention at a quiet location with marvellous view looking towards Scarborough & Rockly Bay.
We hope to go back to Hummingbird Heights in the near future.
