Canoe Bay Beach Resort is a marvelous place: gorgeous beachfront setting, magnificent sunsets ito the sea, wonderful staff and good maintenance. For those who want a secluded and simple setting with no white gloves and uniforms, at an unbelievably low cost, Canoe Bay can't be beat. I've been on more than 60 tropical trips to about 30 different islands, so I know what I'm talking about when I say that I can't think of any way to improve it. ---Bob Patch

My first visit to Canoe Bay I was very impressed and I loved the cottage, the grounds and the beach. However, my visit in 2006 I was very disappointed. The cottage was not well kept, neither was the grounds. The bathtub was flooding and the sea was full of weeds and the water seemed to be stagnant. The bar no longer served the delicious fresh fruit punch instead we were given orchard fruit drinks.

I was really disappointed since I took some friends from Canada. The only saving point was that the swimming pool was up, clean and enjoyable.

The place is absolutely beautiful, throughly enjoyed the time spent. One sore point - communication between the guests and the managerial staff - be diplomatic in your approach no matter who or where your guests are from.

We have stayed as a group in excess of 40 for the last two years. The Canoe Bay location is, I believe one of the best in Tobago.

The service is however one of the worst that I've encountered. The proprietor is not very understanding of guest needs, and this year went too far.

During our holiday we lost water for 1.5 days without apology, were initially banned from the beach and grounds [as a group] as the proprietor had also booked a local wedding party, and similarly on the following day for the Jazz Festival.

In order to preserve our guest rights, we needed to take direct confrontational action which on holiday is not acceptable.

We hope that Mrs James will learn from this experience.

Mr. And Mrs. Murray from Trinidad visited in November 2005 and awarded  Three out of Five

In November 2005, my husband and I spent our honeymoon at Canoe Bay Beach Resort. Our stay was for 3days and 4nights honeymoon package. The resort was set away from the highway so we felt as if we were truly getting away from it all. Although it is absolutely essential to have your own vehicle to get around, for my husband and myself it was the perfect way to spend our honeymoon.......ALONE! The lush natural environment was definitely refreshing to the eyes and spirit with the sounds of the cocrico and other local birds all around.

We were given the honeymoon suite complete with a bottle of Merlot. The staff is very friendly, exuding true Tobagonian charm and hospitality. The owners wished us every great blessing and did all possible to make our stay a memorable one. The resort is a small one that is set on the bay and it was great awakening to the sounds of the surf breaking not too far from our apartment. There were thatch-roof huts along the beach for picnics or just the perfect place to view the most spectacular sunset we have seen yet!! The sea is calm for the most part with slight ripples. It is shallow and very good for those of us who are not too adventurous in the water and for snorkeling as well.

We heartily recommend this resort not only for honeymooners, but also for families with young children who get the opportunity to explore the sea and sand in relative safety.

Words of caution though: come prepared with insect repellant if you plan to spend any time outdoors.

This resort is a self-catering one with apartments being fully self-contained. However, there is a bar and mini-restaurant of sorts which serves good hamburgers and fries and the local sorrel-coconut ice-cream. It was truly a relaxing and revitalizing time for us after hectic months of preparations for our wedding.

Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Williams and God bless you!!!
