Haveing been on holiday in Tobago eight times , we found canoe bay may be on our third vissit, we found the bay to be a very quiet and peacefull location week days, but at the week ends there was a few more locals that would come with there family,a bit more noise but nothing to worry about.
We did stay there one year for a couple of weeks and found the whole experience perfect.
The accomadation was clean and tidy but basic , we found the owner and staff to be polite and helpfull.
What I would say is that you need a car , its not that far from crown point so you can eat out if you want, the supermarket is eight minutes away.
My only concern was that it was a bit isolated at night, but I was assured there was security.
Tobago is an unsophisticated Island as yet not very comercialised, which adds to its charm, if you want sophisticated its the Hilton , and pay there prices,if your on a budget canoe bay is great.

Canoe Bay Beach Resort is a marvelous place: gorgeous beachfront setting, magnificent sunsets ito the sea, wonderful staff and good maintenance. For those who want a secluded and simple setting with no white gloves and uniforms, at an unbelievably low cost, Canoe Bay can't be beat. I've been on more than 60 tropical trips to about 30 different islands, so I know what I'm talking about when I say that I can't think of any way to improve it. ---Bob Patch

My first visit to Canoe Bay I was very impressed and I loved the cottage, the grounds and the beach. However, my visit in 2006 I was very disappointed. The cottage was not well kept, neither was the grounds. The bathtub was flooding and the sea was full of weeds and the water seemed to be stagnant. The bar no longer served the delicious fresh fruit punch instead we were given orchard fruit drinks.
I was really disappointed since I took some friends from Canada. The only saving point was that the swimming pool was up, clean and enjoyable.

The place is absolutely beautiful, throughly enjoyed the time spent. One sore point - communication between the guests and the managerial staff - be diplomatic in your approach no matter who or where your guests are from.

We have stayed as a group in excess of 40 for the last two years. The Canoe Bay location is, I believe one of the best in Tobago.
The service is however one of the worst that I've encountered. The proprietor is not very understanding of guest needs, and this year went too far.
During our holiday we lost water for 1.5 days without apology, were initially banned from the beach and grounds [as a as the proprietor had also booked a local wedding party, and similarly on the following day for the Jazz Festival.
In order to preserve our guest rights, we needed to take direct confrontational action which on holiday is not acceptable.
We hope that Mrs James will learn from this experience.
