The apartment:

I really enjoyed my stay - the accommodation was very comfortable and clean, with great views. Everyone was very friendly and Joshua, the owner, was very helpful and patient.

I felt very safe due to the location of the apartment (above Joshua's property and other houses lived in by his family) and the friendly atmosphere in the village.

Cheno's, the restaurant down the hill, was also tasty and welcoming (large tables meant I could join another group of guests).

The view from the balcony was great and it was super fun to watch all the exotic birds (watch me).

Castara:

The beach at Big Bay was great (apart from the sandflies) for sunbathing (there was also shade!), snorkelling and swimming. I saw lots of tropical fish when I snorkelled in Little Bay, in spite of the weather meaning the conditions weren't ideal.

I loved the fresh fish market and the laid-back atmosphere in the village overall. It was fun to watch the fish being brought in (using a seine net) and also the preparation and selling at the fish market. Unfortunately, I missed out on the fresh bread due to the order system but I got some coconut drops (?) instead which were very fresh and delicious.

The wildlife which is just around every corner is also fun: bananquits (?) and blue/grey tanangers (?) having breakfast on my balcony, fireflies at night, flying fish and stingrays in the water.

Tobago:

I went on a couple of trips (a boat trip which included snorkelling and a barbeque at No Man's Land; a forest walk in Tobago Forest Reserve) which were pricey but also gave me another view of the island.

Fresh coconut water and other fresh fruits are a highlight.

Having travelled widely in South/Central America, I was so pleased to visit somewhere which had interesting things to see/people to meet but where I felt safe and the hassle factor was close to zero.

Overall:

I was pleasantly surprised by how warm and friendly (but not intrusive) the people, both tourists and locals alike, were. I have been raving about my trip since I came back and would not hesitate to recommend it, and Castara Bliss, to anyone (especially anyone travelling on their own).

A special mention goes to Ann from Castara Cottages who organised the booking of Castara Bliss and my airport pick up (I recommend Ferris!) and overall gave me tips regarding my visit.

I only regret is that I live so far away as I would love to be able to visit more often.

We have enjoyed our stay at Castara Bliss very much. The apartment was basic, but very clean. The water pressure was great and there was hot water at all times. The owner, Joshua Williams, went out of his way to make our stay pleasant and immediately fixed whatever problem arose. The deck was a great place for bird watching and feeding and offered a nice view of the ocean and the village scene.

Bring good quality earplugs for the roosters and dogs. They are everywhere on Tobago! The stairs up to the apartment are steep, but they will keep you in good shape!

The bed has mosquito netting, but still - don't forget to bring bug repellent.

We will go back there for sure!

First and foremost I totally and unequivocally had a fantastic time at the Castara Bliss Apartments. My wife and I found the apartments purely by chance on our honeymoon. Castara is a thoroughly charming village, the beach is gorgeous, the atmosphere is peaceful, and the locals are friendly. The Apartments are located on a hill just off the main road, the beach, restaurants and bars are all a short walk. The back porch provides sweeping views of the local football (soccer) field, surrounding hills and beyond that the bay. Sunsets are nothing short of spectacular. The apartments are clean and furnished with a small kitchenette, a bed with mosquito netting. The communal porch has chairs and tables for enjoying the view.

But in truth the apartment itself is really just the tip of the iceberg. I wouldn't be writing this if it wasn't for the owner of the Castara Bliss Apartments, Joshua. Joshua and his family are the very epitome of fantastic hosts. They introduced us to other friends, suggested activities for us and showed us around the village. If you are looking for the Four Seasons, Cancun or Planet Hollywood don't bother with Castara. If you're looking for a nice place to stay in a peaceful fishing village where you can make some new friends talk to Joshua he'll show you around.

We totally recommend Castara Bliss. It is beautifully situated overlooking the village with excellent views of the mountains, rain forest, the village and the ocean. The evening sunsets can be spectacular.

Joshua and his wife kept everything impeccably clean and neat and were readily available for questions and assistance. The furnishings and layout are comfortable, clean and very functional.

We loved sitting on our balcony watching the village activity and the nightly soccer game on the field below and had a great time sharing our vantage point with friends. The kitchen was well appointed and we enjoyed cooking many of our meals during our stay. We love the glass walled shower and the very comfortable bed with its netting was romantic.

Walking down from our apartment was always a please as we enjoyed well-lit and beautifully landscaped path with its abundantly flowering tropical plants. Everything in the village was minutes away, including the pristine Castara Bay beach.

We loved our stay at Castara Bliss and would encourage others to give it a try.
