Castara Cottage - Reader Reports & Opinion

We stayed at Castara's Cottages from April 26th-May 3rd in the Saffron cottage. It was a quaint little, "open-air" concept, spot with a nice balcony facing towards the beach. The accommodations were simple but nice. The manager, Anne, was very professional and very helpful with the booking, making it quite painless. The local restaurants are simple and reasonably priced, ranging from 15-22CAN per person per meal. The cottage manager/housekeeper, Keisha, awaited our arrival and provided us important information for our stay. Seeing as the Scarborough supermarket was closed on a Saturday we were also short on supplies and she was nice enough to head in to town a few days later to pick up some needed supplies, which we were very thankful for.
Overall, beautiful beaches, fairly friendly people and a variety of wildlife.

This was our first holiday since having the kids & what a fantastic choice it was. We took Cinnamon apartment on the lower level & it was as close to nature as you can get. It really was like being in a tree house with countless species of colourful birds inviting themselves for breakfast every morning ! The children were mesmerized.
The 2 beaches are only a short walk from the apartment and Heavenly Bay (the small beach) was indeed a treat for young & old alike. Shallow, safe waters with some great snorkelling only yards away from the beach.
Cinnamon apartment was clean & very well equipped for self-catering. We had everything we needed & more than we expected.
The owners had been in regular contact to make sure our requirements were available - especially for the children, including a cot, high chair, potty and even a baby-sitter !
The best thing about Castara, is there is nothing much to do. No big decisions to make. No big money to spend on tourist tack. The only challenges are 'shall we go to Big Beach, or Little Beach?'
Activities are only moments away, if your imagination & 'get up and go' allows you.
We did squeeze in a couple of brilliant trips - one up into the rainforest & the other on a boat-trip with BBQ. It was SO exciting to cook the very same fish that we had just caught.
Castara Cottage is a delightful, friendly place to stay, especially for families. The staff are exceptionally helpful & we were totally satisfied.

No need to look any further – this has to be the best honeymoon destination of all time ! Castara is just paradise and Saffron apartment is perfect for two - we wish we had more days to spend.
Our five night stay at Castara Cottage was absolutely wonderful. We did lots of bird-watching by putting fruit (bananas mostly) and pieces of bread on the balcony ledge and saw more birds here, than anywhere else.
As for the rooster, that other guests have mentioned - he is just part of the experience and you soon get used to the many sounds and of this unspoilt and welcoming village. There is nothing better than hearing the sound of the waves, exotic bird calls and the rooster crowing in the morning.
We loved everything about Castara Cottage – especially the mosquito nets which feel so romantic and cosy at nights. The house is clean and better equipped than most holiday apartments with good kitchen/cooking facilities.
Local people are friendly, sociable and incredibly generous with their time and advice. Someone else said that you should relax because you are safe, and it's true. The people in Castara are all about love.
Tobago is truly the paradise we were looking for! The beaches are magnificent, the water is warm and inviting, and Castara is a lovely town. Our stay at Castara Cottage has been wonderful too. Everything was great and more than we expected. Thank you for a lovely place to stay and to enjoy our few days in heaven.

My partner, 5 year old daughter, and I stayed here and had a very pleasant stay. it's a great place to completely relax and forget about the rest of the world! close to the beach, surrounded by lush greenery - you feel like you're living in a tree house! the kitchen is well equipped and the owners are very helpful.

We spent two weeks in Saffron studio apartment in March 2013 and had an excellent time. If you are looking for luxury accommodation then this is not the place for you, but if you are looking for basic self-catering accommodation in an authentic Tobagon setting then you will find it is ideal.
The balcony on Saffron is the best feature as it is extremely private and surrounded by lush vegetation. Numerous birds (and bats) visit the balcony each day if you put out food.
The apartment is in a great location. You feel safe as it is within the village and it is only a very short walk from the beach (although up a pretty steep hill). As it is within the village, you should expect some general noise including music from the Blue Mango pub/restaurant; however this didn't bother us, it just added to the general relaxed atmosphere.
Before we went, we were slightly concerned about the lack of air conditioning, wondering whether it would be too hot to sleep well. However, as described in the cottage details the open, airy construction of the building means that it does not get too hot, especially with a fan on.
The apartment also has a lockable safe which made us feel more comfortable about leaving valuables and passports etc. We were also provided with a mobile phone for the duration of our visit which was really helpful for contacting the manager and arranging trips etc. The manager and maid were very attentive without being intrusive.
The self catering facilities are adequate, but not perfect so you may have to improvise a bit. There is no grill and although there is an oven, no baking tray/roasting tin was provided.
Overall we thought it was a great base, and Castara is wonderful. Beautiful and welcoming to tourists. We travelled throughout the island during our visit and felt that Castara was without a doubt, the best place to stay.
