It was great - I have no doubt that Castara (and Rainforest) is the best place we could have stayed in Tobago. The only disappointment was the "la Nina" effect, so the weather wasn't quite up to what we had anticipated, but that's hardly your fault!

Castara Retreats was a delight. The house we stayed in was roomy, clean and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We had 2 excellent meals cooked for us by Veronica and Marieta, and Porridge and Jeanelle were both on hand to give advise or help out in any way.
We were as happy to stay in as to go out as the views were stunning, and the surroundings beautiful. We were only 5 minutes walk down to the beach and to the village. It was up quite a steep hill, and although that caused us no problems, we did know another couple who found the climb a bit of a challenge, worth noting if walking is a problem.
We were after peace and quiet, rather than a hectic night life, and Castara fits this completely. There were evening events-barbecues and pan bands, which were fun to go to, but did not disturb the tranquility of the village.
The sound of the sea took a while to get used to at night, but became a backdrop quite quickly.
Altogether a really excellent holiday.

We stayed for a week at Castara Retreats over Christmas and had a wonderful time. From the moment that Porridge met us at the airport (4hours late on Christmas eve with a smile), till we left, we were marvelously looked after. The lodges are comfortable with gorgeous views. There are amazing numbers and varieties of birds to see from the lodges. Binoculars are hardly necessary. The village is very friendly and has several good places to eat. It is an easy walk to the beach, village and restaurants, so we only needed to drive for excursions around the island. Highly recommended for a totally relaxing holiday.

We had a lovely time, very relaxing. Porridge looked after us
superbly, he really is an exceptional person. The new pavillion is a
great addition, and the welcome barbecue was a huge success. Castara
is a gem, so different from the edgy south. We had a couple of
delicious dinners at Marguerite's and lots of breakfasts at Chino's.
Our daughter Celeste (aged 10) said it was the best holiday of her life!

Five stars I am reborn - this is simply the best holiday I have ever been on. Fantastic. The views from Coasthanger Castara Retreats as well as the village were memorable and exciting. I also felt our holiday benefited local people and had a minimal impact on the environment. One tip: take cash with you as the ATMs often do not work in small villages such as Castara. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Snorkelling is not the best in December but we have seen the trumpet fish as well as Quinn angel fish and some others that I do not know the names of just on the small beach. On other hand we have a photo record of at least 19 different bird species – many of them just around the Castara. Porridge, Jeanell and Sherwin are a great team. We loved food at Marguarite. The lobsters in particular. All in all a great place.
