Darlene Schultz from Canada visited in January 2009 and awarded  Four out of Five

My husband & I stayed there in Jan. 2009 and had a wonderful trip. CharlotteVilla is a very quiet location, the rooms were clean and Charlotteville is a quaint village. The rooms are large with a kitchenette , have a fan in the bedroom (no air conditioning or TV - which is fine with us. Ours was a diving trip and it is just a short jaunt to Speyside from Charlotteville. The roosters crowing sometimes woke you in the morning, but that was not a problem for us. With only 3 suites, we got to know the other people that were staying there and that was nice as well.

We would recommend this property as great alternative to the more expensive hotels in Speyside (we thought Charlotteville was also nicer than Speyside). If you are going for the diving - spend your money on that.

Jo Boraston from U.K. visited in September 2008 and awarded  Four out of Five

I stayed at Charlottevilla for 5 nights during September 2008, in one of the downstairs one-bedroom apartments. I had visited Charlotteville on previous visits, but this was the first time I had stayed there. I chose Charlottevilla over the other main candidate, Top River Pearl, as I heard that it's location was quieter with a garden.

The location on the edge of the village, close to Man'o'War Bay was excellent. It certainly was fairly quiet, but still within easy walking distance of the main village centre.

The accommodation was spacious, clean and cool. No aircon, just one fan. Unlike the other reviewers, I suffered more from insects here than I did in Castara. One of my first purchases was mosquito coils! The mosquito net round the bed was most welcome. The kitchen was well-equipped but the rather dated mini-cooker with just two gas rings and a small oven didn't encourage me to do any real cooking. The terrace in front was a lovely place to sit and read and relax.

Dalin, the local caretaker, was very friendly and helpful. If you are a cat-lover, there are two of the most gorgeous cats in residence - Precious, a pale ginger tom, and his ladyfriend, a most delicate tabby. They kept me company throughout my stay, and I was very sad to leave them behind.

All in all a very pleasant place to stay and I would certainly come back if I stayed in Charlotteville again.

MIchael Mallin from U.K. visited in June 2007 and awarded  Four out of Five

We stayed in the two-bedroomed upper section of Charlottevilla end June/early July, 2007. We would stay there again if revisiting Charlotteville.

The villa is well located, about 50 yards outside the southern boundary of the village and 50 yards level walk from the beach. A nice feature is the balcony, which goes round the whole front of the property, both sides and half of the rear. From the front of the balcony, you can see Man of War bay through the trees, looking over the top of Man of War Cottages. From the rear, you look at the tropical rain forest, which climbs steeply directly from the back fence of the property, and where you can watch (and hear!) wild parrots arguing in the trees above you. There are occasional humming birds/colourful butterfiles etc to be seen in the garden, which is of decent size and gives some privacy and means that the property is set back some distance from the main road (important when we were there as the annual St Peter’s Fisherman’s Festival was taking place when, seemingly, the whole of Tobago descends on Charlottesville, determined to outdo each other with their music).

The balcony front and back is wide and a very pleasant sitting-out space. The villa itself, at least at our upper floor level, catches the breeze quite well and is cooler for that. There are extensive widows almost all round, which seem to be well designed to bring welcome breezes into the interior. Maybe for this reason, those members of our party who had been badly bitten by insects our previous week in Castara, didn't suffer to the same extent here. The roof overhangs substantially, to the extent that sun is kept away from the walls of the properly at all times, which helps to keep it cooler.

The property itself is roomy. The main room/kitchenette is roughly 20 foot square, and almost as high. It has a ceiling fan in the main room and both bedrooms have waist high pedestal fans.

Against all that, apart from an American-style upright fridge-freezer with a welcome ice-making facility the property is basic. The balcony could do with some loungers, rather than the straight-backed wooden chairs – there was some competition for the single hammock. It is also in need of some TLC. For example, it is fortunate that Charlotteville is quiet, because some of the window catches were missing and as there is no fixed safe deposit box security is almost non-existent. One of the main bedroom window panes was missing, making our anit-mozzi machine useless (although there was an efficient mozzi net). On one of the two bathrooms the door catch needs fixing - etc
