Beautifully clean and fresh. Very well equipped with more than was necessary for a good cook up. Very friendly hosts in Jeanelle and Porridge, they couldn't do enough to help, even when we had moved to another guest house. Lovely balcony and gardens for wildlife.
Cannot fault this lovely little apartment.

What can i say about poridges place.... its a place where you can really discover the real Tobago.
I have stayed there a few times now and each time has been fantastic.
The family are really welcoming and perfect hosts.
If you want to sample the real Tobago way poridge will lead the way with Trips to sunday school, island tours, boat trips and car hire he does it all.
Times i have had sat on the balcony late at nite putting the world to rights with him over a Carib or two.
If you want to sample true Tobagan home cooking i am sure Jeanell will organise a meal for you which they would be cooking to eat them selves.
I even cooked some pasta for them one nite as a thankyou or the way they welcomed me into their home.
If this is not for you they would be quiet happy for you to do your own thing.
The one thing that strikes me with poridge and Jeanell is
there love for there country and how proud they are to have you as their guests.
I read the visitor book in the appartment and most if not all said the same thing that this family made the visit to Tobago even more special. I have certainly met a friend who i would welcome anytime in England.
I was lucky enough for my trip to cover christmas and i was made part of the family that day. For the following days i had the chance to visit some friends of Poridges at house partys in the evening and i sampled food that i would never of tried it was fantastic.
Any i will stop waffleing now and say A TRIP TO TOBAGO IS NOT COMPLETE WITH OUT A VISIT TO PORRIDGES PLACE
NOW BOOK UP AND ENJOY YOUR STAY
YOU WONT REGRET IT

Our time at Porridge's Place was a great success. The room was very nice. With Porridge and Jeanell were extremely gracious. Jeanell baked us some bread our first night there and was always close by if we needed anything. I was surprized that we never saw (or felt) a single misquito. The fan and small AC were more than enough to make our room comfy.
Porridge provided transportation when we wanted to go places. We rented a car for 3 days and did some exploring. I can't say enough about how well Jeanell treated us. Porridge's Place isn't the 'glitz and glamour' spot on Tobago (although Porridge knows where that is) BUT It is a wonderful place to 'get away from it all' and enjoy the island way of life.
Be sure and wonder down some of those 'adventureous' roads. We found lovely white beaches which we had all to our selves. And always we found people willing to be helpful and gracious.

I stayed at Porridge's for a total of 5 nights in September 2008. I had visited Castara before but as part of a couple when we had rented in the village. This time, travelling alone, I decided to stay somewhere closer to a family. We had met Porridge on our previous visits, so I thought of his apartment immediately, and I certainly made the right decision.
The apartment is perfect for a single person or a couple. It is clean and well-equipped with modern appliances and good quality bedding. There are nice little touches such as being welcomed with freshly baked bread, jam, etc, ready for breakfast, and a couple of cold Caribs in the fridge. Jeanell and Porridge are lovely hosts, welcoming you into the family but also allowing you as much privacy as you want. Having stayed close to Little Bay before, the disadvantage of the walk up and down the hill was balanced by the extra peace and quiet on the outskirts of the village. I loved sitting on the covered terrace, watching the birds in the feeders, the chickens in the garden and the herd of goats across the road. A great place to sit, read and relax.
All in all great value simple accommodation with lovely hosts that make an effort to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

I stayed at Porridge’s Place for 6 days in June 2008. My wife and I had met Porridge and Jeanell at Easter while visiting Castara. When we heard about Porridge’s Place we decided that during our next visit to Castara we would stay there. This next visit came earlier than expected when I decided last minute to spend a relaxed week in Tobago. Although I wanted to go diving in Speyside, nothing beats the relaxed atmosphere of Castara and Speyside is only an hour’s scenic drive through the rain forest.
Booking the apartment was very easy and straightforward. My internet booking was confirmed immediately by Jeanell. I also arranged my transfer from Crown Point to Castara with Porridge. He has this amazing talent to make you feel relaxed and at ease from the moment you meet him, and I can strongly recommend using his transfer service.
The open plan apartment itself is very clean and well appointed. It has a well equipped kitchen, a spacious bedroom with a very comfortable queen sized bed and en-suite facilities. Although the apartment has air-conditioning I did not need it as the natural breeze coming in from the Caribbean cools the place to a comfortable temperature. There is also a covered outside terrace with great views towards the sea. I spent many hours there reading, enjoying the views and watching the humming birds fly by.
Porridge’s Place is on a hill about 1 km from the main beach in Castara. Walking to the beach takes about 20 minutes down a hill quite steep in places. But I never walked the entire distance as there is always someone who would offer a ride. You can also rent a reliable and reasonably priced car through Porridge. Tobago is a relatively small island that can easily be explored by car in a day.
In summary, Porridge’s Place is probably the best value for money apartment you can find in Castara. The hospitality of Jeanell and Porridge will make you feel at home the minute you arrive and will give you the rare opportunity to get to know the people and life in Castara.
I can highly recommend Porridge’s Place and will certainly return.
