To say I was neutrally satisfied is somewhat unfair since I had high expectations of facility my family stayed at in Tobago Plantations. Generally our high expectations were met.
The main advantages of the facilty for us were the security and the general peaceful settings.
We felt the driveway could be better lit and we were squemish about the several creatures crawling into the apartment, especially at nighttime. Eww!
The pool was inviting and very convenient; however seeing those crawling critters in there in the daylight was a big turn off.
The so-called nearby beach advertised was also misleading, since the beach was too rough for bathing. I don't know if it would be different at other times in the year. However, since there are so many other beaches close by, that was not a major disappointment for us.
Definitely worth a repeat visit!

We stayed at the condo villas, the grounds of Tobago Plantations were well kept. Loved the view of the golf course. The Villa property and room was exceptional. The customer service and hospitality received was excellent...thank you Dayer and Josanne and the security guards for being courteous and kind and making our stay at Sugarmill suites perfect. Even the housekeeper passed and washed our dishes...thank you. Will be coming back for sure on my next visit to Tobago.

We stayed at a bungalow (duplex) 38b. It was well equipped with cooker/oven, kettle, toaster, coffee maker, blender, fridge freezer, 3 TV's with satellite, DVD and CD stereo. On the balcony was a jacuzzi and we had access to the pool. The two bedrooms had aircon and en-suite. No aircon in main sitting room but it had 3 sets of double doors that can open. There was an outside toilet and shower room and washer / drier. There was also a wall safe.
The apartment was only about 5 or 6 years old so was still like new. We rented through Virgin Holidays and we had our apartment serviced every day, (even our dishes were done!). The reception staff were very helpful and efficient.
Should you wish the facilities at the VHL TOBAGO (formerly the Hilton) were available for use / hire. The hotel was only about a 5 min walk from our apartment. We had a look around the hotel and were very grateful we did NOT book there!
The grounds of the Plantations Resort were immaculate, we were a stones throw from the sea, (not a beach though) and we looked over the fairway of the golf course. It is on the more windy Atlantic side but with temperatures of about 30-35 degrees we were glad of the breeze.
As for security - there are two main entry checkpoints. Until they got to know us we were stopped and asked for ID / names. As you drive round the development there were about 3 or 4 other check points. As you enter the area our apartment was there was another checkpoint with barrier. We were stopped and asked for ID etc. At night some of the checkpoints close but we saw a roving security vehicle with green flashing light as a visible presence.
It was extremely quiet, we could hear the sea, birds and wind at night which was very relaxing. In all the standards were very high, excellent service, great location. In my opinion it is an absolute must if you are renting a villa and want peace of mind.

Sugarmill Suites 23 Jul 2008

We are going on our first Tobago holiday in October this year. Only about 70 days to go......
We booked through Virgin and selected the Sugarmill Suites. I cannot find any reviews on here. The villas are located in the grounds of the Hilton and Golf Course (apparently).
Has anyone had experience of these properties or even seen them? I would like some idea as to what we can expect.
On another note, based on reviews on this website I am trying to book a sheppy hire car. Over a month has passed since I e-mailed him via his web site and still no reply. From reading reviews I know this is not uncommon but I would like to arrange a hire car sooner than later. Is there another form of contact? If not I may have to try another company
Thanks for your time.....
