When you visit Tobago and stay with us you should expect certain things of us: 

• Expect to feel the ocean breeze in your face day and night.
• Expect to see fine views from your room across the tropical rain forests in the valley down to Speyside village and the ocean...... and in the evening you may find a romantic sunset
• Expect your rooms to be clean and comfortable, simply furnished and self contained - providing for your true needs during a trouble free Caribbean vacation. Top Ranking guest house offers a choice of three fully furnished self-contained apartments with balcony or patio
• Expect your home to be a quiet hillside perch with tropical birds, landscaped with exotic tropical plants and foliage.... bougainvillaea, crotons, ixoras, citrus and banana plants, papaya, guavas......
• Expect a 10 minute walk to the beach, snorkelling and scuba diving or rain forest hiking; the tourist office, the local "rum shop" and village restaurants which include the famous Miss Jemma's sea view kitchen up the almond tree.. local taxis, buses and public transport are available.
• Expect to be met by your hosts Ann and Max Davidson on arrival and to be able to join in activities in the village community during your stay. There is a min-mart on site where you can get your daily supplies. .... expect all this and you won't be disappointed !!

We stayed here for 4 nights in mid-April 2015. The driveway is extremely steep!! We had an automatic hire car which just about made it up the hill, but another couple who were staying who had a manual gearbox were advised not to attempt to go up the drive because it would burn their clutch out!! You can park in the road at the bottom of the hill though.

The room is basic and clean, with a comfy bed, a sink, fridge, microwave, toaster, an electric hot plate with a kettle and some plates and cutlery. We ate out in the evenings, (10-15 mins walk downhill to Speyside restaurants), the kitchenette isn't really suitable for cooking up a feast!

The owners were on holiday when we stayed, so their son, Troy, greeted us when we arrived. Nice chap! We asked for the wi-fi code and he had to ring his parents to get it. We could only get signal down the other end of the balcony from our room, but that wasn't so bad - there are some seats overlooking the hillside you can perch on!

It was nice to have Newton George literally on our doorstep; we didn't realise he lived next door! We did a rainforest tour and a Little Tobago tour (Troy was the skipper!) with him which was excellent. The 'Hummingbird Gallery' on his veranda is also worth seeing - amazing to see the birds up close.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Top Ranking, it was good value for money and in a very peaceful and quiet location. Only small minor negative points - there's no mirror in the bathroom (!) and we had people staying in the room adjoining ours for one night and they were a bit noisy!

We stayed at the property grand view villa for 4 nights. We stayed in the top floor apartment, vet spacious with 2 large bedrooms, both with 2 double beds. Lots of storage space and a roomy lounge. The area outside for sitting on the balcony, watching the birds is stunning. No air conditioning so it can get a bit sticky- but 2 portable fans inside. We had a car which I'd recommend as its on a steep hill and would be a bit of a walk to the beach and back in the heat. We drove over and used the beach at blue waters in which is gorgeous and has nice snorkelling - I saw a turtle. For the price I think this excellent value accommodation with 5 star views.
