Villa Iguana - Reader Reports & Opinion

Whilst this 'villa' is in a superb setting and the location brilliant thats where it ends for us. It would be fair to say the property is very tired and in need of updating. We had expected Carribbean basic but we were very disappointed. We have given a 2 star rating because of the location, the property is 1 star.
While offering air conditioning, this is true but only in the main bedroom and not very efficient. The bedroom at the front of the property is very small for 2 adults and if you don't like the sound of the ocean crashing in it's not for you!
Beds in both rooms were fine but the rest of the furniture needs replacing.
Living Room:- Not enough chairs for 4 adults to sit comfortably and no dining table or chairs if you did want to eat indoors.
The kitchen:-Contents,fridge,cooker,coffee maker, toaster, crockery and cutlery need replacing. We had to clean most of the above before we could use anything. The kitchen is not equipped for self-catering for four people.
The bathroom:- Basin barely clinging to the wall and the shower was positively disgusting. No amount of cleaning will ever make it any better it needs a re-vamp. On the bright side there was constant hot water.
Bed linen was clean. Towels left a lot to be desired, bleach stained. I would only use as a floorcloth to be honest.
Outdoor area:-not very well equipped with furniture for comfortaly enjoying the magnificent view of the ocean and the plethora of wild birds that come into the garden.
This property needs an overhaul and in our opinion it wouldn't take too much time or money.
We are four '50 somethings' and would thoroughly recommend Pleasant Prospect, but unfortunately we could not do the same for Villa Iguana. Our kids have stayed in better accommodation back packing!!

Our one-week stay at Villa Iguana in March of 2008 was all that we had hoped for and more. The location is perfectly situated to walk to all sorts of dining, groceries, and beaches...the view completely amazed us...an almost unobstructed view of the Caribbean with waves crashing into rocks directly beneath the villa. The porch and wide private deck were great for lounging away the hours and enjoying sunsets. Of course, we enjoyed watching the ever-present iguanas too! Inside we found the apartments to be simple, clean, efficient...perfect for a no-frills vacation...the only complication being that we ran out of gas one evening while cooking dinner. There was a fridge and stove in each apartment, two beds in one, with a floor cot, one bed and a folding couch in the smaller apartment. Everything else worked wonderfully...the main bedroom was air-conditioned and we used the fan in the front bedroom...it did become humid at night with the doors all shut, but was expected. The only down-side found was a drunk living next door that daily pestered us for drinks and money...security was minimal, though there was a gate at the back of the Villa's fence.
Gus, the manager, picked us up at the airport and was very patient and helpful with making travel arrangements otherwise. We also rented a vehicle from him to tour the island for several days. He prefers to be contacted by email it seems.
The Fish Pot and Harlequin restaurants nearby provided very affordable and excellent dining...we frequented each for the week that we stayed at the Villa and enjoyed the company of many other regulars who had been coming for years.
We certainly had a great, affordable stay at the Villa Iguana, and hope to visit again!

I have stayed at Villa Iguana twice now - both times for one week duration.
Our visits have been exclusively for fishinng the local beaches and rock marks and we have found the location at Pleasant Prospect ideal for hopping from one side of the island to the other (lower Caribbean) due to it's proximity to a number of roads that criss-cross Tobago from Mt Irvin area to The Claude Noel Highway.
The two bedroom apartment has two double Bedrooms - one (to the rear of the property) with air con. The other bedroom has louvered shutters and faces the sea (across the varandah and decking, then 15 metres below)so air con is not needed.
The lounge area (approx 10sq metres) is simply furnished with a two-seater sofa, a small coffee table and an arm chair. There is a small TV with cable channels (free, no card needed).
As the living area is open plan, the kitchenette is to the right of the lounge and consists of a sink unit with H&C, cupboards underneath and along one wall, a butane gas hob and a fridge freezer (medium sized). Crockery, cutlery and pots and pans are just enough to get by, if you wash up regularily (which we didn't - 4 blokes sharing!!).
As somewhere to crash out and cook a basic meal (beans on toast)it's a real home from home.
The three main benefits for us were -
1) Its proximity to the Pizza Boys outlet at pleasant Prospect, supermarket and fruit stalls also nearby.
2) The stunning views across to Plymouth
3) The owner - Rodney, who is sometimes in residence.
For those seeking basic ammenities and stunning views - Villa Iguana won't dissapoint.
Villa Iguana - Beautiful
We stayed at an accomodation called Villa Iguana. It is down a very small road in Pleasant Prospect (between Mt Irvine and Black Rock), and the best direction I can give is go to the Ocean View bar and ask. It is 1 minute walk from back bay, one of my favourite beaches, and exceptinally clean.
Villa Iguana has 2 self contained apartments one 1 bed apt and one 2 bed apt, beautifully decorated, wonderfully spacious and overlooking the Carribean Sea.
It is accessed by a side gate and you enter the apartment through french doors framed by lovely white lace curtains. This airy apartment then opens up in front of you to a large living area with open plan kitchen. The decor is very clean and tasteful with white lace curtains and delicate colors in the bedrooms (Complete with Mosquito nets drapped romantically from the ceiling). There are slats on either side of the windows which let through the refreshing ocean breezes.
There is no aircon but fans are provided, I must admit we did not miss the aircon as I think it would have been a noisy intrusion on this wonderful setting.
When you step onto the balcony you can hear the waves crashing against the rocks and we spent a few evenings sipping a rum and taking in the atmosphere.
The owner Rodney has taking to leaving fruit our for the Iguanas below the apartment and if you are lucky around 10.30am you will see Harold a huge iguana taking elevenses.
This accomodation is not listed and I know Steve tries to list them all I will put the contact details here and maybe he could visit next time he's there.
It is owned by a local Tobagan guy called Rodney however, he has a manager called Gus whom deals with the bookings.
