We stayed at white house in July 2009 together with our 8 year old daughter. She got an extra matress on the floor for additional 10 US. We just had to bring an own mosquito net for her. The house is very nice. Because of it´s structure it was never extremly hot inside the room. You could walk to pirate´s bay in around 25 minutes which was O.K. The village itself is also nice, you can buy all the basics and you also find some restaurants open. The only annoying thing were the mosquito´s at the beach.

All in all we had a really relaxing stay.

My brother and I used this website extensively when planning our recent trip to Tobago so of course wanted to leave comments for others.

We sadly are back in the UK now but spent 5 nights at the White House a mere couple of weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

We were greeted by the lovely house keeper Sharon who even took us to buy fish so we got a good deal and picked all the bits of forest off our clothes so she could wash them when were out for the day... what a star.

We stayed in the sea view apartment and as the other apartment was empty it was very private and peaceful. The apartment (more studio) had a really lovely feel to it with whitewashed walls and teracotta tile flooring throughout. The lovely big windows opened up to make a cool airy space and provided lovely views through the lush vegetation of the garden to the sea beyond. The balcony to the side was very private and looks over the adjacent rainforest, also with the lockable door to the garden it was totally safe to leave our dive kit outside drying. Many an hour was spent at night watching the fire flies in the massive bamboos. The apartment is basically equiped but to be honest it had everything we needed and we self catered almost every meal... the mossie net is something we were very grateful for too.

Charlottesville itself has a very local feel with a fish co-op at the centre, a small general store and one or 2 other small shops around. We mostly ate in with the fresh local tuna being so lovely and available each day. Beach wise the Charlottesville beach is more of a working beach (lovely at sunset) but the Pirates Bay just along was lovely with great snorkelling on the right hand side and we had the place to ourselves most of the day.

The only downside was that Charlottesville seems to have a far larger population of cockerals than anywhere else on the island.... even as a veggie I did start to dream about the various ways to cook a cockeral when they work me at 3 or 4am!!!

On the whole I would say that a car is a must to get the most out of the north of the island and Charlottesville is lovely for a few days. I would wholey recommend the white house, its a lovely calm, airy and private caribean apartment. Great value for money and excellent people are involved so the booking, payment and arrival were all very easy. All in all great all round.

This was the best accomodation we had during our holiday in Tobago. The house is on the end of the village, about ten minutes from the main road on the beach. Behind the villa the rainforest starts. We could see hummingbirds in the morning and bats in the night just in front of the kittchen window. We felt very close to nature in this relaxing and peacfull house.

Three very kind local hosts cared for us. Cat picked us up with his taxi whenever we needed him, Sharon kept the house clean and told us everthing we need to know about the village. Horace - the neigbour - brought fresh bananas and you should definitvely join him for a walk to Flagstaff Hill and his plantation.

Arrangement for transportation from Crown Point airport went well. Our flight was delayed and we where able change our pick up schedule by contacting "Cat". The Sea View was clean and airy with a nice view of the ocean and the porch overlooked the rain forest with the sound of a stream below. The housekeeper "Sharon" is a very lovely person who when above and beyond her duties by helping us with an unexpected change in travel plans concerning lodging in Trinadad. The neighbor offered wonderful Papaya and bananas, a real treat.

The adjoining apartment was unoccupied which was nice as it provided a large private porch. If you want privacy I would recommend renting both apartments. On a practical note, you will need to tuck the mesquito net under the mattress before bedtime....

The locals are genuine people who seem to be respectful of your privacy at the WhiteHouse. The beach at Pirates Bay is the best and is approx a 25 minute walk from the apartment. Slow down and just be......

Cheers

As my father's from Tobago I had been to Charlotteville several times before. It's an astoundingly beautiful place. Perfect romantic getaway or family vacation spot. The White House is a similar accommodation to the Top River Pearl, but less expensive, less crowded and more private. The two rooms (myself and my girlfriend stayed in both) are simple and clean, with tiled floors, high ceilings, robust beds with mosquito nets, one ceiling fan and one floor fan, proper bathrooms with hot water showers, and with basic kitchens. The view from the sea view apartment is great, but it also shows that that apartment is the more popular of the two. The two apartments are next to each other and share the same veranda, separated by a low wooden fence (and with two plastic tables), which makes it suitable for friends or a family to rent both of them. The owner, Steve Salfield, is very accommodating. On the whole I would say that the White House is an excellent choice, especially considering the rent.
