What Not to Miss in Rome

Rome, the beautiful capital of Italy is also known as the ‘City of Seven Hills.’ According to mythology the seven hills were Cispius, Cermalus, Sucusa, Fagutal, Palatium, Oppius, and Velia. However, now the seven hills refer to Blossom, Myrtle, Clock Tower, Lumpkin, Jackson, Mount Aventine and Old Shorter hills.

Rome is a wonderful historical place and there are many architectural wonders that are present in the city. It is a unique place and it blends the traditional and the modern elements in a beautiful way. The center of the city is at Centro Storico which is flanked by River Tiber in the east and Via del Corso in the west. The city, from the center, spreads towards Spagna in the eastern side, towards Colosseo in the southern side, towards Villa Borghese in the northern side, and westward towards the Vatican City.

This eternal city is a place of art and culture. The region is dotted with a number of ancient palaces and the "Golden house of Nero" is one of the best places that are situated there. Sprawled across 200 acres the house has a statue of Nero, which is 150 feet high. One of the ancient buildings that are still intact today is the ‘The Pantheon’. The spatial design of the structure has made it one of the architectural wonders of the place.

There is a plethora of sightseeing options that dot the region. You should visit the ‘Colosseo’ where the Arch of Constantine, Coliseum, the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, are located. Another place of note is the Spagna where you will find the Spanish Steps as well as the Mausoleum of Augustus. As you go west you would reach the Vatican City where you can visit the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Piazza, St. Peter's Basilica, as well as the Vatican Museum. You can also visit Fori Imperiali that offers wonderful sights to the visitors.

There are also a number of museums as well as churches that you can visit while you are on a trip to the region. Some of the best museums are Palazzo Massimo, Capitoline Museums, Villa Giulia Museum and the Galleria Borghese. There are also many beautiful churches that are scattered throughout the city.

Rome boasts a thriving nightlife. There are many clubs and bars that are situated in the city where you can go and jive the night away. There is live music in most of the bars and you are sure to have a great time in the night hot-spots. You can go to Testaccio district to enjoy the nightlife of the region. There are also a large number of restaurants where you can savor the traditional Italian dishes and you are sure to enjoy it! There are also ample shopping places in the city. You can visit the many shops that are present in the region and shop for some of the most beautiful souvenirs.
