Tobago Ferry
A guide to ferry services between Trinidad and Tobago
The T&T Port Authority operate a daily car ferry service between Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, and Tobago's capital, Scarborough.
The crossing takes around 5½ hours. Although it is a very affordable way of crossing between the islands, the journey is generally uncomfortable and has little or no merit from a sightseeing point of view. Unless you wish to transport a vehicle between Trinidad and Tobago, the airbridge service is a far preferable alternative.
Since the start of 2005, the Port Authority have been trialing two twin-hulled vessels, "The Cat" and, more recently, another vessel, "The Lynx". These high-powered ferries make the journey in under two hours, making them a viable alternative to the airbridge (if you are desperate).
We have given up trying to report schedules for the ferries, because in typical "on-off" inefficient Trinidadian manner, the Authority seem incapable of making a decision. The latest information is that the fast ferry will sail twice a day from Scarborough and Port of Spain on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On weekends and on Wednesdays there will be one sailing from each port. Don't hold your breath!
