WEATHER ... 29TH DECEMBER 2012 ... 1315 GMT

I am pleased to see the trades returning for Christmas Day and Tobago is enjoying better weather although I notice a small area of heavy showers close by.

It is still very complicated in the Atlantic as deep Depressions sporadically retain control and if the Siberian High blocks back to the west then this will disrupt the trade winds for the Caribbean yet again.

There is also a dominant Low pressure over Venzuela and this can bring more rain in the event of a trade breakdown.

So only a slight adjustment of the bigger picture could bring some rather unexpected changes to Tobago's weather if the current weather patterns persist.

There is currently a big debate on how the weather patterns seem to be changing (in response to Global Warming) and it is unwise to assume that 'warming' means it is getting warmer everywhere ... the evident changes in the direction of the jet streams could potentially bring dramatic changes to precipitation and wind speed as well as temperature ... some places will get colder and this applies to sea temperatures as well.

I am not very confident of a nice and sunny Dry Season for Tobago in 2013 but I am confident that any rainy periods should not last too long.

WEATHER ... 6TH JANUARY 2013 ... 1030 GMT

For now, at least, I can see a typical dry season weather pattern across the Tropical Atlantic.

The atmosphere over the whole of the Atlantic and Caribbean is filled with dry Saharan dust and the trades are beginning to return.

This will bring very good weather with plenty of sunshine and trade showers.

The Atlantic High has yet to build as the large depressions in the northern Atlantic are still getting blocked but the High block is now to the south of the UK and is now allowing them to move north and so avoiding the regular deluges for the UK and Europe. Things are indeed changing.

For Tobago this kind weather looks like it just setting in so it should last for at least the rest of this week. Enjoy.

WEATHER ... 12TH JANUARY 2013... 0800 GMT

Last week brought good seasonal weather to Tobago and it should continue through this week.

Low pressure has again displaced the Atlantic High, however the High is hanging on in the north of the Caribbean and this is just about keeping the trades going.

If the High rebuilds this week then the typical dry season conditions that Tobago has been enjoying should continue well beyond the end of this coming week.

Travel ... it's very cold in the UK and Europe so travellers may experience some disruption to their flights and transfers this week where snow and ice forms.

WEATHER ... 19TH JANUARY 2013 ... 0930 GMT

Some of the flights leaving the UK for Tobago may have been delayed this week due to the heavy snowfalls in the UK. This disruption looks likely to continue until next Wednesday/Thursday.

In Tobago, the good weather continues and I don't see an end to it yet ... another week of sunshine and trade showers to come.

The seas should have calmed down from the rather extreme wave heights experienced last week.

WEATHER ... 26TH JANUARY 2013... 1845 GMT

The atrocious weather in the UK is not ending but at least it will be rainfall instead of snowfall and hopefully everyone can get off on their holidays without the disruption experienced over the last week.

Most of the Caribbean is under strong trade winds ... this is good weather with sunshine and showers but the seas will get choppy from time to time.

Tobago should enjoy more of the same for the next week ... so far, this has been a very good dry season for visitors to Tobago.

WEATHER ...2ND FEBRUARY 2013 ... 1100 GMT

A depression has formed in the mid-Atlantic again and this is disrupting the usual trade winds westerly track.

Instead these winds are being squeezed around the depression and rushing back down from a northerly direction across the Caribbean.

So ... it's going to be quite windy and there will be heavy seas. Tobago won't get the worst of this as the heaviest seas look like occurring to the west. Otherwise the weather will continue to be clear and sunny with occasional trade showers.

WEATHER ... 8TH FEBRUARY 2013 ... 2230 GMT

Tobago is being blessed with good weather in this year's dry season and I have to admit that I am rather peeved to have put my next visitation off until June after my son finishes University.

So enjoy if you can get there ...

... the eastern US is expecting exceptional snowfall and the UK is also expecting snowfall this weekend and this could disrupt travel although I think the main airports (Gatwick and Heathrow) will escape the worst.

On the other hand ... if you are already in Tobago and expecting to return this weekend then keep your fingers crossed and you could have an extended stay ... smile.

The weather in Tobago continues to look good and I cannot see any changes over the next week.

Fine weather continues in Tobago with typical sunshine and trade showers and this is set to continue for the foreseeable future.

The whole Caribbean is enjoying settled weather.

WEATHER ... 24TH FEBRUARY 2013 ... 1300 GMT

Conditions continue to be fine although there is some moisture close to the south of Tobago which is coming off the South American mainland.

The weather has been very good since December but this week there is a small risk of a little rain coming up from the south from time to time.

WEATHER ... 2ND MARCH 2013 ... 1200 GMT

As with last week there is an increasing amount of moisture moving off the South American mainland and this is associated with low pressure.

It shouldn't spoil things too much but expect a little rain around for the early part of this week ... it's difficult to predict where in the southeast Caribbean the rain could fall.

WEATHER ... 9TH MARCH 2013 ... 1545 GMT

The main feature of Tobago's weather for the first half of this week will be waves ... BIG waves.

Energy is being created around a depression east of Florida and swells are spreading south across the east Caribbean and these should reach Tobago soon if not already. Expect sea conditions to get heavy over Sunday and Monday and then gradually decrease over the rest of the week.

All the boats should either be brought ashore or anchored well out in the bays.

Otherwise the weather should be fine.

WEATHER ... 16TH MARCH 2013 ... 1030 GMT

It is quite showery around most of the Caribbean as a trough moves towards the south east and some moisture is also moving off the South American mainland where the pressure is low.

For Tobago, this is bringing some cloudy conditions with some showery rain, some of it prolonged.

Expect these conditions to last a few days until it returns to normal.

WEATHER ... 23RD MARCH 2013 ... 0930 GMT

Anyone returning to the UK from Tobago is in for a shock this weekend with utterly ghastly conditions and possible travel disruption from the heavy rain and snow.

Meanwhile, back in Tobago the weather is fairly normal for the dry season as High pressure has re-established itself in the Atlantic ... so it's sunshine and trade showers.

Watch out for a deep area of Low pressure producing torrential rain over Venezuela ... there is a tiny risk that some of this rain could move north and affect Tobago although I would say that Trinidad is at most risk from this.

WEATHER ... 20TH MARCH 2013 ... 1030 GMT

As Andy has fed back ... Tobago has probably had the best weather of anywhere over the last 3 months although I guess it will be getting very dry.

Many in the UK are deserting their country in search of an escape from the very unusual cold weather that is expected to last until mid-April. But they will have to go a long way because the displaced jet stream is running across southern Europe and bringing unseasonal amounts of rain to these more commonly visited areas.

The Caribbean is OK generally but there have been occasional troughs bringing rain from time to time.

It is the southern and eastern Caribbean that is best for sunshine and that includes Tobago and anywhere south of St Lucia.

This week the sunshine continues with strong trades so expect the seas to pick up. Rain is not far away to the south and there still remains a very small risk that some rainfall could sneak up from time to time perhaps towards the end of the week.

WEATHER ... 7TH APRIL 2013 ... 1000 BST

Tobago is having one of the driest of dry seasons ... this applies also to the rest of the Caribbean although there was a bit of a disturbance to the far north last week affecting the southern US States.

Anyway, I cannot see an end to the very sunny weather for Tobago, certainly not in the coming week.

The rains will come eventually, probably when I get there in June

WEATHER ... 13TH APRIL 2013 ... 0800 BST

Last week brought some much needed rain as a weak trough moved south eastwards through the eastern Caribbean.

Moderate to strong trades are now developing and these will bring plenty of localised showers this week plus the possibility of the seas picking up.

WEATHER ... 20TH APRIL 2013 ... 0930 BST

At long last ... the first significant rainfall for months.

Tobago has become very dry with little rainfall since Christmas and this also applies to many other parts of the Caribbean.

Unfortunately, most of the rain is falling into the Caribbean Sea but this trough should move a little further south and bring more rain to Tobago over the next 24 - 48 hours.

Trades are also quite strong so when the rain clears up it looks like a return to the dry conditions with occasional trade showers.

WEATHER ... 27TH APRIL 2013 ... 1100 BST

The trough I referred to last week is still hanging around.

It moved to the east of the Caribbean and is now moving back towards the north west. Moisture from the south is mixing with this trough and increasing the intensity of the rain.

This will bring plenty of much needed rain to the eastern Caribbean.

Tobago can expect at least 3 more days of rainfall ... some of it will be heavy.

WEATHER ... 4TH MAY 2013 ... 1200 BST

The nagging trough that has been around for nearly 3 weeks continues to bring rain to much of the eastern and central Caribbean.

The Atlantic High is not helping as it is weak and not putting very much influence on the Caribbean weather.

However, the Atlantic High is expected to build towards the Caribbean later this week and the rainfall (which has been much needed) will start to reduce.

So for Tobago there is a high risk of rain, mostly showers, up to Tuesday/Wednesday and the normal trade weather should resume by the end of the week.

WEATHER ... 11TH MAY 2013 ... 1200 BST

Tobago is enjoying nice weather today but conditions around most of the Caribbean are looking very changeable with numerous troughs and the occasional plume of moisture pushing north from the Low pressure on the South American mainland.

So it difficult to predict the weather for any particular area as the rainfall generated by these relatively weak systems is going to be very hit and miss.

Therefore, next week for Tobago comes with a higher risk of showery activity from time to time.

We are also approaching the wet season and the Storms over Africa are beginning to develop whilst 2 cyclones have already developed in the Indian Ocean.

The 2013 Hurricane posts will be started in June and I am hoping nothing develops sooner.
