Hi All,
Going back down to Tobago next month and have heard rumours about lovely coffee in Trinidad... maybe Tobago? Years ago there was a place on Orange Hill...anyone tried? Have yet to find anything even close to decent...would like to reduce the supply in my luggage.
I should point out, picky coffee drinker; use to buying fresh beans or ground beans from Colombia, Jamaica, Brazil, Central America. ...don't do supermarket stuff, drink it black. Will break down and buy a coffee at Rituals when arriving at 5:00 am; desperate.
Any thoughts or just bring as usual. Thanks,
Cheers, Carol

Moreshead market has very drinkable (strong) coffee already ground. Probably what Chris is talking about.

Hi Chris & Hugh,
Thanks for the reply....will check at Moreshead and the various Pennysavers. Hoping it is not the Chief brand you are talking about; really raw taste.
Will post info (discoveries) while down.
Cheers,
Carol

No Chief brand is from the USA.
The Trinidad coffee is in gold or silver vacuum sealed packets . It tasted really rich and fresh . I am a tea drinker ......but do have a Robusto coffee tree in Castara. At the cocoa plantation in the north they have a lot of mature trees fruiting but alas they say it is only for their own consumption.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for the further update on finding real Trini coffee. I'm envious of your coffee tree; not that I would like to harvest, roast, grind whatever for my morning coffee...but I understand the flowers have a wonderful scent.
Had heard about the coffee trees (told outside of Roxborough near the school); and that they sometimes sell plants and coffee...guess not.
Again thanks for the info.
Cheers, Carol

Chris, you had better keep an eye on your coffee tree while Carole is around!

Ok Hugh,
Have a plan...you study up, growing, roasting etc. and I will provide transport for us to sneak up to Castara, visit Chris' back yard or front yard? and take some cutting or the whole coffee tree!
Chris...please send directions to house!
Cheers, Carol

That will free up about 4 pounds of luggage space that my Peet's coffee takes up each outbound trip!
Count me in!
