Our Favourite Restaurants

Post by Susan B. »

Firstly, I would like to say a huge “Thank you”, for this web site. We found it so very, very helpful! It made experiencing a new island much easier. We were in Tobago from March 30/04 until April 10/04. We really enjoyed the island. We tried as many restaurants as possible for our evening dinner.

Our most favourite restaurant was:

Pepe’s International Cuisine- very good food, chef was very good ( he has worked at Holiday Inn), good value, good service, we ate there 3 times, and told new found friends to enjoy it as well. In fact, we told a lovely British family to try it, and they happened to go there that same evening for dinner as us, and they took 10% off our bill, which was totally not necessary, but generous. The dinner included soup, salad, entre and garlic bread and a complementary glass of rum punch or fruit punch. Our bill for 2 of us came to $170 TT, we tried lamb, red snapper, flying fish, coconut shrimp, stuffed dolphin, steak. Only negative would be the mosquitoes, they had PICS going and provided OFF spray if needed. Attentive, but not bothersome.

Pepe’s is located almost across from Café Coco.

The rest are randomly listed:

Golden Star Restaurant You were right on, the wife is out drumming up customers for dinner, or even for tomorrow night’s dinner. We enjoyed the steel band on Wednesday night and the food was OK. Not impressed with the service, our server was very complacent. $100 TT for a chicken leg or a small portion of dolphin. Wouldn’t hurry back.

Jemma’s Sea Side Kitchen A very fun place to eat right at the sea!! I enjoyed the macaroni pie, service was good, food was good and quick. Would go back for sure.

Pelican Reef Food very good, like the entertainment, service was good. Seafood Chowder excellent! More expensive.

Chef’s BBQ a nice lighter dinner bbq’d chicken dinner, good flavour and cheaper meal. Quick take service. Would revisit.

House of Pancakes very quaint, visited 2 mornings, good food, value, service nice fruit cup. Nice owners. Would go back for sure.

Bonkers Food fair/good, service rather slow and not real busy? Coconut Cream pie was like rubber!! We happened to meet another group of Canadian travelers from Alberta, whose mother is from Trinidad and they experienced the “rubber pie” also. Wouldn’t hurry back. More expensive.

Best of Thyme good food, nice setting beside pool, very relaxing and romantic, nice presentation. Good value.

Kariwak Village Restaurant good flavour, nice buffet Friday evening, nice setting. Would go back.

Crystal’s Restaurant and Bar locals suggest for crab and dumplings, good. Quick service.

Miss Esmie’s popular lunch at beach spot, chicken roti, good flavour, would have preferred without the bones.

Steak and Lobster Grill nice sea side romantic dinner, good service (at times a little bothersome), reasonable price, set price $100 includes soup, salad, and desert. Good value.

I hope you find this helpful, we stayed at Spence Holiday Resort, as a connection from Canada is married to Mr Spence. Inexpensive, good location, swimming pool.
