Hi
We have just arrived in Tobago and have just been to pennysavers to have dinner at our villa and were told that there is no fresh meat available to buy on the island but only frozen. Also the prices were roughly the english equivalent. Is this correct? Any suggestions where to do food shopping? We have no trouble with a drive!
Many Thanks All
Nicky

Hi Nicky,
The best place for meat is the La Tours Farm (Golden Grove Farm) on Golden Grove Road, which runs alongside Caribbean Estates on the main road from the airport. There's a back route to it to, which is the turn off almost diagonally opposite MeShells restaurant on the Shirvan Road (down the side of the small 'Golden Grove' shop). It IS virtually impossible to get meat that's not frozen, sadly. However, with the weather here, the good thing is that it defrosts quickly!
Pennysavers is pretty much the cheapest option on the island for most things though!
Lisa.

PS: forgot to say. don't buy the veggetables at the supermarket, they are expensive. stop at the little stalls all over the island on every street... thats where locals buy the veggie...

Hi I was curious about this food shopping business. That how much would a average meal with a bit of fish and veggies and fruits that you cook ur self in Castara cost. And what is the price range of vegetables, fruits, fish and meat compared to England. Well i guess meat is expensive but the rest? Cheers!

Laura,do it yourself is so inexpensive.Buy fish from the coop, very
cheap.Ask Ralph for some chicken or goat...v cheap.Veg and fruit as Steph says buy from the growers on the roadside.I eat very well(eh Steph?)and don't spend more than £10-12 a week(on food!)
Eating in the local restaurants isn't outrageouslly expensive, you can get a very good meal for £5-10.
