Arnos Vale Waterwheel

More like Arnos Grove! We booked to go last Friday (1/8) and confirmed that morning that the reservation was OK. We turned up (it's in the middle of nowhere) and were greeted by only a mangy dog, a deaf caretaker and the place in darkness. Kind of disappointing, since the concierge at the Hilton recommended it so highly for our last night.

Still, we went to Papillon (the restaurant in the Stonehaven villa complex, which was really nice. The Seahorse was the best though! Lovely setting (go for sunset) and fantastic food.

I guess the moral of the story (I digress) is that if you feel like risking the Waterwheel is to phone before you set out to check that they are going to honour your booking and open the restaurant at all.

The Waterwheel

Hey Helen,

Sorry to hear about your disappointment with this place. We got the same advice from the concierge at the Hilton and went along.

We went in June 2002 and the place and the food were stunning. There was a group fo eight of us (mixed) and the choice of wines, the fresh fish and the local dishes (gotta try the goat curry, it's simply amazing!) were out of this world in taste, texture and portion.

Highly recommended!
