Where to stay?

Post by Tara Potter »

I am planning to go to Tobago next Easter with my 3kids (4, 9 and 11) and husband. We want to stay in a no frills, reasonably priced villa near the beach. We do not want to be near busy tourist places. We would like a beach with little or no surf. Any suggestions?

Hi Tara

Welcome aboard.

Your question is a little too broad. To get the best out of the forum, you need to do a bit of basic research and then come back to ask specific questions that will help you finalise your choice. Start by going through our Accommodation listings (see main menu bar) and draw up a list of places that seem suitable. Then use the Search facility at the top of the page to see what comment there is on each of these place. Then, if you have specific questions, you can ask them here.

Have fun!

Having just stayed at the Rex Turtle Beach - it is ideal for children because of the huge pool, but the sea is not good for them to swim in off the beach - the entry into the water is quite steep and sometimes the current is quite strong.

Better would be perhaps the Arnos Vale with it's own bay - beautiful setting and a slow slope to the beach. But we did not visit the hotel - just visited from the sea whilst on Cocomotion.

depending on the time of year. if you will be there low season then sure rex turtle or grafton is ok but they are large (for tobago standards) hotels with pool bars and the like. grafton has a good all inclusive deal.

however if your there mid or high season i dont think its what your after.

if it fits your budget try the Arnos vale hotel. i think it will be perfect for you.

Hi Tara,
If you are thinking of the Speyside end of the island. You could try the Bluewaters Inn, they have couple of self catering bungalows in the grounds so you get the vest of both worlds.
The BWI has its own beach which is sandy and very sheltered.

Hope this helps

where to stay

Hi tara
just to say we stayed at castara retreats this easter for 2 weeks. We have kids aged 12 and 10. We had a wonderful time. the kids loved the wildlife- birds , butterflies etc. we stayed in the rainforest lodge which had great views but all the other units looked nice. Little bay is the better beach if you dont want big waves. The main beach is nice but does get quite a current. We found at easter that not all the restaurants were open. The most reliable was marguerites- which is the nearest anyway. Take up Porridges offer to stop at a supermarket and stock up if you can. We did a bit of touring, boat trips and some lazy days. Duck, your neighbour does good boat trips- he will find you. We found that castara retreats was a nice cool place to have a break in the hottest part of the day. Our boys loved the hammock. Any questions you have please ask
