My boyfriend and I were recommended Castara Retreats by friends who stayed there last year and who raved about this beautiful place set on the side of the hill above the beach in Castara. This trip was quite a big deal for us as we had only previously done budget holidays to India and Laos and Cambodia and hadn't gone to the Caribbean before.
It didn’t take us long to discover why our friends were so positive. When we were met by porridge at the airport with a big smile; he made us feel immediately relaxed and at home. He delivered us into Rainforest just before the sun set and our breath was taken away by the lovely views of the bay and the village on the hillside.
First thing in the morning we walked down to the beach for a swim across the bay and a snorkel on the coral reef at the far end of the beach. The water was a bit murky because of the rain before we arrived but the sun shone through and it lit up all the corals and small tropical fish and we immediately knew that one week here wasn’t going to be enough to see everything on offer.
We joined in the boat trip with Sherwin on Sunarise and this was probably the highlight of the week with great snorkelling at Englishman’s Bay and Big Bay and a great BBQ on the beach. Plus and it was nice to hang out with others on holiday and we made some good friends who were staying in the apartment close to us and we ended up having a meal together at Margaruite's and went back for a "lime" on our terrace.
Our week passed in a flash and we know we must find a way to save up and go back to do more snorkelling and see our new friends in the village. We’re really happy that we decided to go to Tobago but very sad that it was over so quickly.
