Hi-- Just use a debit card in an ATM (cash point) machine at the airport & get TT's. If you convert your GBP's into dollars, you'll lose in the exchange!!

Hi Pauline

Welcome aboard! :)

This is a very commonly asked question and you will find lots of answers to the question in previous posts. The short answer is that it would be madness to change Sterling to USD and to then change that to TTD - or accept the poor rates that most businesses will give you if you try to pay them in a foreign currency. Yes, as Joanne so right says, use a debit card at any of the ATM machines.

Grateful if someone can confirm that a VISA Debit Card is acceptable and not a Credit Card when using an ATM.
Tore up the credit cards!

Need to get this right. The ATMs take VISA DEBIT CARDS as well as VISA CREDIT CARDS?
Appols for double posting if I have two up here.

Hi Tony

Welcome aboard! :)

Any card with the VISA logo, whether debit or credit card, will work in the ATM machines in Tobago.

I would like to add something to David´s info...

First Citizens Bank DOES NOT accept a foreign bank card, never mind if it´s connected to Visa or Master Card. The FCB´s ATM´s ONLY accept foreign Credit Cards. If you use your card there, the money will not be taken from your account, it will be from your credit!

Last year I asked the First Citizen in Canaan why, and they did not gave me any answer. They looked surprised when I told them it has been so all the time since they opend the office.

But Republic Bank and Royal Bank are working like any other modern bank, NOT First Citizen, never mind how big they seems to be.
