Coco Reef - My Opinion

Post by Julie Austin »

We spent a week at Coco Reef Resort recently and, after reading good reviews about the place, were quite disappointed. We were not on an all-inclusive plan which turned out to be a blessing as the standard of food served is definitely not in keeping with a 5* hotel. On one of our 2 dinners there we were served bread that tasted of meat - it had been kept in a warmer(why??) that the staff admitted had heated something else in and they could not replace it as they had no more bread!! Also, pastry was swimming in a sauce making it soggy and there was no subtelty about the flavours. These, and other problems, were not really dealt with as no one could 'do' anything about it and we had to argue to get the meals taken off the bill, which they eventually did. I think that hotels which specialise in all-inclusive deals are running the risk of losing other guests.
Our room was good but the shower was very low pressure.
No problem with noise and beach is nice but would not recommend or return here because of lack of professionalism and reluctance to address any complaint. If you are looking for a chill out with so-so standards then it's ok, but if you want that extra bit more and are used to high standards, give it a miss! Have read good reports on the Hilton & Blue Haven but have not been as yet!
Local restaurant Pelican reef is good, others such as Bonkers & Pepe's are
acceptable. Nice tea at Arnos Vale Hotel.
It is worth hiring a car and exploring the Island and other hotels, restaurants - Tobago is unspoilt which is part of it's charm and Crown Point is not a great loction. Englishman's Bay is spectacular, just a short drive away.

was a little bit worried to read your review of the Coco Reef as we go there on Saturday for our honeymoon !, fortunately not on AI, we were going to explore the island anyway and just use the resort as a base to chill out for the first few days then book a few tours and maybe hire a car for a few days, we will have to keep our fingers crossed, thanks for the honest review an though,

I would have to disagree completely. We have just returned from our wedding and honeymoon and had a fantastic time.

The food was out of this world and the evening meals in Tamaras would not be bettered in a 5* restaurant in this country.

Sorry you didn't have such a great time - maybe you were just unlucky.

I would agree with Andrew, we have also just returned from our Honeymoon and can honestly say that the food, standard of service and proffesionalism of the staff was excellent.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Coco Reef. The food at Tamara's is very good but the menu (particularly the entrees) don't vary much from day to day. It can become a bit repetitive over the course of 2 weeks.

We were AI and don't regret it. Adding up the prices on the menus then incorporating the drinks I think we got a good deal (but then, I like a rum and coke of an evening).

We ate out a couple of times, once at Pelican Reef. Yes it was good but the quality of the food wasn't in the same league as Tamara's.
