Have booked a week in tobago at the toucan, but want to spend three days at speyside.Any info re; top ranking guest house or others in -$35 a night per room would help. I want to be within walking distance of a couple of bars.Would it be safe to tromp in the rainforest (ie. is it too high) after a morning diving?Have spent one day in speyside b4 and loved it.

Hi Gary,
The highest point on Tobago is 549m along the central spine of hills near Runnemede but the rain forest walks are not in that area. Even after a couple days repetitive diving you will be fine and be well with in the height limits following dives.

I'm not sure about guest houses we always stay at the BWI but just about everywere in Speyside is with in walking distance.

Regards
Kevin

thanks Kevin,I look forward to a bit of trekking thru the rainforest rather than just relaxing all day. I have been to tobago once and did four days diving around the south(maverick, divers dream/thirst, mt. irvine wall),and one day at speyside(kelleston drain ). I found the diving better (1 day!) in speyside, what is your opinion?I have not based my self in speyside because of three factors:a) price b) socialising c) have been informed that the dive centres in the north can be apathetic to go out (using the weather as excuse) unless there is a group demanding it.Have I made the right decision?

Hi Gary

If I can chip in here: your comment about the Speyside dive shops being apathetic about going out with small groups is sadly a very common complaint so must have some foundation.

However, in November one of the island's top dive operations moves into Speyside and I think that things will change. I can't say any more for the moment but watch out for an announcement in a couple of weeks.

You will certainly find it cheaper in Speyside, but confess that I am surprised by your comment that you have chosen Speyside for socialising. I would have thought you would have found the village very quiet on this front, particularly after the Toucan Inn and more active scene at Crown Point
