The blurb for the Cocrico Inn says"luxury redefined"!Mmmmmm??
I can honestly say that it is misleading.By no means can this place be described as luxurious in any way whatsoever.I am not going to say anymore about it except that I would not recommend it to my enemy!!

Hi David,
Have you stayed at the Cocrico Inn? I was hoping for someone to say what a gem it is and put my mind at ease but after reading your short opinion i'm pretty scared.

Hi Lou

I have to say that David's comments do confirm comments that have been made to me by others.

Can I ask what is bad about the place?
My boyfriend is goin to have a look at it tomorrow and we will most likely to be staying there for a week in november. We are looking at the houses they offer, a 2 bed one, and from the sounds of it, it doesn't sound too bad. You see the problem that we seem to be having is that not many places will allow myself, my daughter and Darren to stay as Darren is a local. I have emailed a lot of different villa's etc and they seem ok until i mention he will be staying there too. The cocrico is the only place that will allow the three of us to stay. Unless you would be able to recommend somewhere that i haven't already tried, it looks like i'm stuck with the cocrico.
The food reports for the inn seem good enough tho!!

Hmmm!

I see the problem. In view of your comments, this is a thread that could escalate, so before this happens, may I please assure readers that hotels and guesthouses on Tobago do NOT normally discriminate - after all, until recently (and possibly even now) they receive more annual holidaymakers from Trinidad than from overseas.

Please don't take offence at the following remarks, Lou. I'm sure your boyfriend is a really nice guy to whom these comments do not apply. However, I would hate for your post to give the wrong impression about the island and the explanation is, unfortunately, likely to embarass.

Because of its fundamental safey, Tobago has always been popular with ladies from Europe and other places who visit the island and find romance. Many of these relationships are very genuine, deep and long-lasting, but equally some of the men that ply themselves on the beaches and bars have little integrity and dishonourable intent. There have been more than a few cases where the men's main aim is to be taken back to the ladies accommodation to 'case the joint'. A few days/weeks later, the place gets burgled. This is why we strongly advise everyone not to take 'locals' back to their accommodation in our Personal Safety article. It is why Lou is finding a problem.

I'm sorry Lou, but I can say little more. The best thing is for your boyfriend to visit accommodation you like and meet the owners. I have always found everyone on Tobago to be wonderfully hospitable and understanding. I hate to say it, but if they meet him and take a stand, maybe you should read between the lines.

I really apologise if my comments upset you, because that is certainly not my intention. Sadly, I see no way that I can ignore your question as it seems to be in direct response to my reply, so I'm well and truly caught. I can only answer honestly.

No offence taken what so ever. The main reason for looking at the Cocrico is that it is 2 blocks from his house and that he knows the people that own the place. I think it has been an added advantage that he was talking to the owners son, rather than me just sending out emails. But I dont want to stay somewhere that has a bad rep.
I know your holiday is what you make it but I do wanna enjoy myself in the accom. I would like to know a bit more about the accom so please if anyone has been and stayed there your opinons will be very gratefully recieved. The main thing i want is somewhere clean to put my head down for a few nts and somewhere that is ok for my little 'un. Plus i have the opinion of you get what you pay for, and it is a cheap little place to stay so I can't exactly expect to much.

Lou W,I was not happy at the Cocrico for a number of reasons.I found the owner very short and abrupt, the accommodation was of a very low standard(I think it opened in 1973 and nothing has been done since).Basic things such as no plugs in the sink/bath,a lack of water at various times( both hot and cold). As for children,I would hesitate to take my own there as the accommodation is on the first floor up some steep concrete steps and along an open-air balcony/passage.Hope you do find somewhere,
Regards David(131 days to go :D :D :D )
