Coco Reef - returned 8th Sept

Post by Tracey Harrison »

I've just noticed a previous review of Coco Reef and having read through all of it, can't argue with anything and don't think there is a need to do a long contribution other than to add some individual bits based on our experience that you may all find useful.

Coco Reef was every bit as lovely as were were led to expect. The food was fantastic - we are both vegetarian and the buffets at the beach bar were just amazing. We only went b & b and really glad we did as it gave is opportunity to try some other places. I will post something under the food section about this though would like to just tell anyone visiting the Crown Point area to visit Store Bay and have lunch there at one of the huts. The rotis are fab and at only £1 (equivalent) fantastic value.

We got married at Coco Reef and the service was really lovely. It was really hot and humid (and we never got used to that unfortunately) so we got married at 5pm in the gardens. I did have one quite serious problem though - I had booked a hair appointment at Coco Cuts and regretted it! I found out afterwards that the regular hairdresser was away and the guy who did mine was the 'stand in'. To cut a long story short, so to speak, the guy didn't have a clue what he was doing and burnt my hair so badly I've had to have over an inch cut since coming home - and as it is already short, an inch is a lot! I did complain, especially as this was my wedding day, and though nothing could be done on the day (I had to do my hair myself and manage the best I could with the burnt bits) I was offered compensation that I was satisfied with.

Part of the compensation was a night in the Royal Suite. We were very excited about this and very much looking forward to the experience. If anyone is considering upgrading I thought it might be worth commenting on what we found. The suite is a duplex suite with a large bedroom downstairs and a lounge upstairs. The bedroom looks over the gardens at the front of the hotel, the lounge looks over the lagoon at the back - beautiful view. However, apart from a lot of space, there wasn't anything else to say about this suite. I think I had been expecting that the bathroom would be different to the standard ones in that it might have had a larger and more luxurious bath or even a jacuzzi - but it didn't. The only difference to the standard bathrooms was that there was an additional sink and a dressing area.

So, the suite is very lovely with great views and more floorspace, but that is about it - but a great experience all the same.

All in all, we were more than happy at having chosen Coco Reef for our wedding and honeymoon and would recommend it to anyone - although for any brides to be, check who is doing the hair that day!!

Hello Tracey - what's your new name missus?!?!?!?

Congratulations on your wedding to you and Mr ????!!! Hope you had a really lovely time.

I was waiting to see when you came back and what delights you would report.

I'm sorry about your hair - a bride and her 'do' are not to be messed with. Sounds like you got over it though?!? When you mention hot and humid it sounds like 'forget the straighteners...' BUT, your experience sounds horrendous. And I was worried about a damp weekend for a hen night in Gt Yarmouth last Saturday - er - forget the straighteners!!!!

Anyway, welcome back! Hope you managed to carry your dress with you okay and hope the journey back home wasn't too bad?

Hi Anne,

Thank you so much for your good wishes!

The only problem I actually found at Coco Reef was that a lot of the guests were honeymooning couples who seemed to just want to be alone which made socialising difficult! Yes, I know I should have been the same but having lived together for 2 years we are beyond the 'we want to be alone' period!! Not only that, even the guests who weren't honeymooners thought we wanted to be alone and avoided us!!!

Yes, I got over my hair disaster! You have to be philosophical in the end don't you?! The really funny bit was when I did my hair myself and thought it looked ok, and the make up artist said 'are you leaving it like THAT?' She thought my finished 'look' was what the hairdresser had done!! Ho hum!

As for hot and humid, I remember being glad that I actually live in the UK because having any kind of hair style with straight fine hair like mine is impossible over there - whatever I did with it just ended up completely undone within 30 minutes of leaving the room! So, yes, forget the straighteners AND the hair wax!

My married name is 'Crewdson' - so I am now left with a lifetime of having to spell out my surname EVERY single time - John (hubby) has had various variations on his name such as cruton, crewsdon, and others!

Journey back was actually ok though we suffered from jet lag much worse than before - not sure why. The flight took off more or less on time (Virgin) though the hour and a half wait at Crown Point airport was difficult due to the intense heat and no air conditioning. Since returning, I have discovered a homoeopathic remedy to revent jet lag which is proven to help, I wish I'd know about it before. I won't put the web link here as I guess it would be advertising, but I do have it to pass on if anyone wants it.

As for transporting my dress, I put it in a case that was small enough to take on as hand luggage - I hung it up as soon as I got to the hotel and it was just fine by the wedding day!

One of the highlights of the holiday was sitting at the side of the airport runway and watching the jets come in on a Thursday!! 8)

Hello Mrs Crewdson!!

People get our name wrong all the time too!!! We are regularly referred to as SKYES.. For goodness sake... Drives you mad...! Mrs Skyes has also become my nickname so can't get away from it!!!

I am growing my hair. I used to have it really short cropped, it's taken me over 18 months to get it to me chin (just). Forgot it was curly... So you can image what the humidity does to it. Spend ages straightening it, what a waste of time!!! Still, looking back at my holiday snaps - hair don't look too bad, so I'm sure that you still look fab in your wedding piccies.

I bet you never thought that one of the highlights of your holiday would be sitting at the side of the airport runway and watching the jets come in on a Thursday!! Little things ey?!?!?

Well, anyrood, welcome back home and back to reality. And here is my top 7 reminders that you are back home...

1. Tan fading and no real sunshine to top it up
2. Going back to work - joy
3. Dark mornings - more joy
4. Soon be putting the heating on (if not done so already)
5. Soon be scraping ice off cars. Brrrrrr
6. Dark evenings - snuggle up
7. Can't keep off this site...reminder of happy holidays, and planning next one. Yay!!

Mrs Skyes!...
