We had a wonderful time in Charlotsville. It's not the place to go for a wild night out, but it was the most relaxing place I have ever been to. Ansel and the rest of the crew where very helpful. O k, the rooms are basic, but the kitchen has all you need, the food was good, especialy the ice cream. We look forward to our next trip

I've read the other reviews of this hotel on this site and if all they can talk about is noise, air conditioning and ice cream then they should have a long think about what they want from holidays. Granted, Banana Boat is basic accomodation (nothing a lick of paint and a solar water heater wouldn't fix) but USD 50 per night for a double ensuite room is a bargain. The charming village of Charlotteville is located quite remotely so electricity and water supplies can be erratic. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful, certainly not white-gloved drones that you would find in the Hilton but I don't want that. There is a dawn chorus of wild native birds, free range chickens AND hotel caged parrots but you can also hear the waves on the beach from your room.
If you want a silent, cold room with a minibar, TV and 24 hour room service then this is not the hotel for you. Having said that, Tobago isn't the destination for you either. Go to Dubai instead with all the other unimaginative losers.

What a great guesthouse in a wonderfull town! Itīs the best choice in Tobago. The beaches are so wonderfull (snorkeling with turtles...) and Banana boat is 30 meters away from the beach. Caroline is the owner of the accomadation and is still friendly and have a lot of good ideas where to go on the island(Little Tobago,....). The rooms are really good and very clean. The meals in the Banana-Boat restaurant are great and you will have a perfect holdiday if you stay there!!!!

1st let me say that I don't require 5 star , 4 star or ever 3 star, bear this in mind as you read this. Banana Boat is a good idea, only half baked.
Our room had A/C and a fan. The fan did as much as a fan can do. The A/C was a waste of money. The roon was sparce and dingy even by back packer standards although it did have a ensuit bathroom (warm water semi functional) The bed was amongst
the worst I have ever slept on.
We attempted to eat half of our meals at the hotel as we wanted to give the hotel a fair chance. The meals were O.K. but the service only hardly adiquate. For example we were encouraged by hand writen sign to "Ask about our famous home made ice cream" We did ask, twice at the end of our supper meal. Each time we told that they didn't have any. The correct responce would be " We are out tonight but will have it tomorrow ; or on the weekend or at noon", or "I'm sorry we are out tonight would you like piece of our delicious pie" or maybe" fruit with cinnamon and Bailey cream." The point is it doen't have to be famous but you need to look you are trying. In fact all of the employees appear to care less if they have buisness. ( In short they don't get it) The owner was somewhat better.
On the up side : The location of the hotel is good. The restaurant and bar are pleasant and the view is great.
Don't expect a lot of happy patrons. When we we there we only met a few and non seemed happy and none were staying long.

Our first room here was quite small, with ensuite bathroom. The fan was mounted on the wall, and so the breeze from it did not hit the beds (it was so hot!). We were woken up by the parrots in cages, which are located in the bar area, every morning - they are incredibly loud! We moved to a different room (with a/c) which was a much more pleasant experience - the room was larger, much cooler, and further away from the parrots. There is a communal sun terrace and a bar/restaurant on site. When we stayed there, the kitchen was being rennovated so breakfast was not available (but is usually included in the rates).
