Turtle Beach - Reader Reports & Opinion
Apologies To Grafton???
Lord De Courtnay
i am given to understand , i may have been a little hasty in my condemnation of grafton beach . to be fair ,it was a long time ago! if so i apologize, and to prove i harbour no grudges, i am going to pop along , whilst in tobago, and see the improvements, for myself. as an ex- hotelier myself, i will be very pleased to sample the NEW grafton beach, as it was obviosly in need of some improvements. once i have sampled the hotel again, i will be in an up to date position to comment, as both a seasoned traveller, and a hospitality orientated professional. cannot say fairer than that, can i? just noticed, ihave missed a "u" in obviously---- thats all i ever wanted from grafton, an acknowledgement, they got it wrong!!!!!!!anyway water under the bridge, lets enjoy paradise again at coco reef. Pool/renovation Update 19 Dec 2003
Steve Wooler from Suffolk, England
The following message was posted by reader Tim Green in a thread in General Questions a short while. A copy is posted here for the information of all visitors thinking of a holiday at the Rex Turtle Beach.
I'm due to stay at Rex Turtle Beach on the 1st Jan '04 so was as concerned as anyone with regard the building of a new swimming pool and refurb.
I sent a mail direct to Rex Resorts in London expressing these concerns and asking whether I would be staying at the Rex with 'work in progress' with the associated workmen and tools. I had this reply yesterday (18th Dec '03 @ 16:00Hrs):
Quote: "I am glad to say that all renovations at the Turtle Beach are complete and the new swimming pool is looking fantastic with its swim up bar and Jacuzzi."

Renovation Update 21 Dec 2003
Steve Wooler from Suffolk, England
Over the course of this weekend I have had some very interesting and rewarding communication with Edmund Sidonie, the new General Manager of the Rex Turtle Beach hotel.
Firstly, good news for Marc, Richard, Tim, Barry and anyone else with concerns of possible building work at the Rex during forthcoming stays. Edmund says:
I would like to state categorically that there are absolutely no plans to do any renovations in May 2004 or for that matter any other period in the near future.
Edmund is going to send me a full synopsis of the work undertaken at a later date. However, we can take it as official that there are no further planned closures or major building/renovation/refurbishment programs likely to affect anyone’s holiday or cause inconvenience while at the Rex Turtle Beach.
Unsubstantiated rumours about closures can be very damaging to a hotel. I believe that this rumour first appeared on tripadvisor.. My only advice is to stick to if you want accurate reliable information about Tobago.
After that unashamed plug for , may I congratulate the Rex Turtle Beach for the way they have handled the building of the new pool and any other work conducted at the same time (the buildings have been repainted, judging by the photo above). The building of the new pool – arguably the biggest and best on the island – has obviously gone extremely smoothly and was a very major undertaking. Despite this, myTobago have received absolutely no complaints from readers. I understand that the entire project was accomplished within six weeks. This is remarkable by most standards, but truly astonishing for Tobago. I was particularly surprised, but delighted, to hear that the entire project was done by local contractors using local labour, not imported, and accomplished during the wettest month of the year. I think a big hand of applause should be given to all involved. Well done!
Rex Turtle Beach Hotel
Having just returned (1 week ago today) from our first visit to Tobago, we cannot wait to return. My husband & I stayed at the Rex Turtle Beach Hotel (as recommended by fellow traveller John Hill) and had the most amazing time. The hotel is simple, the new pool is an excellent addition, but very friendly. The food on offer is of a very hign quality. We did choose to eat out a couple of times (Meshells & The Seahorse are excellent) but only to experience the local cuisine. The hotel is ideally situated right on the beach, what a lovely view to wake up to each day. It was an ideal location from which to travel. If like us you prefer to be on the sea rather than in a taxi then approach a local fisherman called Stumpy (alias Tuna Man). Do not be put off by his name or his boat, he is a genuine guy who will take you anywhere you wish to go, without any hidden costs. Having explored either on land or below sea, the Turtle Beach was always a welcoming place to return to, especially the Poolside Bar where the staff were in party mood.
