Avocado Cottage - 2-bedroom Cottage/House
Avocado Cottage is a two bedroom wooden house located in tropical gardens in a quiet area on the edge of the Mount Irvine Golf course. It has a large veranda with views over the golf course to the sea and is within a short walk of good beaches.
We inspected Avocado Cottage during our 2008 trip to Tobago and were very impressed with both the owner and the property. Anyone looking for non-frills accommodation in a lovely setting and with a friendly and hospitable local host would do well to consider this property. We look forward to staying there ourselves in early 2009.

Castara Retreats Lodges - 3 Cottages/Houses
The lodges at Castara Retreats include three self-contained detached units. Fisherman's Lodge is a wooden fisherman's cabin which has recently been renovated and extended and now offers unique and comfortable accommodation. Two new Haiku lodges (one with one bedroom, the other with two) were added in late 2005. In addition to the lodges, Castara Retreats also offers a large and very distinctive wooden house split into three self-contained apartments (two studios and one with two bedrooms). The property is set in lush grounds on the hillside above beautiful Castara bay and has very rapidly achieved a truly excellent reputation.
We started our 2005 visit to Tobago with 5 days at Castara Retreats. We now fully understand why the property attracts such regular and highly positive comment in our forum. This accommodation offers a truly unique experience.

Essex Cottage - 2-bedroom Cottage/House
Essex Cottage is a charming self-contained cottage with stunning views located just outside the tiny fishing village of Parlatuvier on Tobago's northern Caribbean coast. The cottage can be rented in either one-bedroom or two-bedroom configuration.
The cottage is located in the grounds of Gloucester Place, a small and hospitable upscale guest house which offers four comfortable double rooms on bed and breakfast terms. The property has an infinity-edge swimming pool, available to all guests.
We had the pleasure of staying at Essex Cottage and Gloucester Place for five days in 2007 and concluded that both these new properties represent an excellent choice of holiday accommodation.
The cottage is only available for rental between mid-November and the end of April each year..

Situated directly on the golden sands of Grange Beach, Grange Cottage sits on two acres of tropical woodland and provides secluded, quiet, unpretentious and understated accommodation in a 4-bedroom two-storey house.
We spent five days at Grange Beach during our 2006 visit. Jill was in seventh heaven with the stunning beachside location. Grange beach provides wonderful swimming conditions when the surf is not running high - and when it is, watching the surfers is a great way to pass the time. The cottage is simple and basic, but represent a great beachside home-from-home.

Lagoon Lodge - 2 Cottages/Houses
Lagoon Lodge is located in seven acres of grounds on part of an old Coconut plantation, adjacent to a protected marine park known as Bon Accord Lagoon. The grounds are totally fenced to allow imported peacocks and ostriches to roam the grounds. Visitor reports about this property have varied widely, the only common denominater appearing to be whether the somewhat eccentric owner takes to you or not. We have also heard reports that maintenance standards at the property have fallen over recent years.
We note with dissapointment that the owner no longer publishes rental rates on his website. We are always suspicious of properties that are unable to be transparent on these matters. Further, he has not reponded to reminders asking him to update our information.
[Update January 2007] Several test emails to this property have been returned because the mail account is full. This would indicate that the owner is not collecting his email and would tend to confirm local reports that suggest that the property is no longer interested in/accepting business.

Little House On The Hill - 2 Cottages/Houses
The Little House on the Hill comprises of two cottages - one 2-bedroom unit and one 1-bedroom unit - located in Castara and surrounded by a fruit and flower garden, ideal for birdwatching. The property is just a few minutes walk from Castara beach. Both cottages have wooden decks that overlook the hillside and offer private sunbathing by day and tranquil stargazing and cool relaxation by night.
We started our 2006 tour with five days at the 2-larger bedroom cottage of Little House. Frankly, we could have enjoyed a lot longer there. The property undoubtedly makes an excellent holiday base for those who aren't bothered about being away from the beach and who, like me, prefer the wildlife and quiet solitude of locations outside the built-up area of the village.
Since our stay, the second one-bedroom cottage (known as Little House Two) has been built beside the larger cottage. We have not viewed this accommodation, so have no knowledge of the levels of accommodation that it provides.

Man-O-War Bay Cottages - 10 Cottages/Houses
Built on right on the beach at Charlotteville, I still fondly remember my childhood holidays in the oldest of the Man-O-War Bay Cottages, back in the late '50s. No electricity or running water in those days (don't worry - they've been refurbished and updated once or twice since then). The original four cottages were largely used as retreats by artists and authors and the odd priest (no pun intended). They still make an interesting retreat but make no mistake, you are paying for the location and not the cottages or facilities. I can't visit Tobago without a walk along Charlotteville beach and these cottages.

Located adjacent to the Mount Irvine Bay Hotel championship golf course, Marie's Place is a sprawling bungalow set in delightful, well kept tropical gardens. It is a walk of about 10 minutes to nearby Grange Beach in Mount Irvine Bay. The villa has been split into two two-bedroom self-contained apartments, one called Tamarind Cottage and the other Lime Tree Cottage.

Mary's Hill Lodge - 3-bedroom Cottage/House
Mary's Hill Lodge is a wooden-built cottage set high on a hillside, with views of woodlands on the other side of the valley. The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, one en-suite. Thanks to being almost completely open the sitting/dining/kitchen area is breezy with a view of the sunset above the woodlands across the valley. All bedrooms have their own balconies looking out across the garden area and can be opened up to get the best of the cool night breezes.

Orchid Villa Cottage - 1-bedroom Cottage/House
Orchid Villa Cottage is a thoroughly charming and beautifully decorated one-bedroom self-contained cottage set in the rear gardens of the Orchid Villa Apartments, home to the owner and three studio and 2-bedroom apartments. The property is located in the peaceful residential area of Mount Pleasant, less than a five-minute drive from some of the best Caribbean-coast beaches and the island's most popular restaurants and supermarkets..
The friendly and hospitable English owner resides on the ground floor, is an excellent cook and provides breakfast and dinner by arrangement. There is a half acre of well maintained gardens and a Jacuzzi/plunge-pool plus a 'Games Room' with excercise equipment and a full-size pool table. A swimming pool is due for completion in mid-2006.

Seagrape Villa - 2-bedroom Cottage/House
Only one minute's stroll from the beach, this two-bedroom self-contained apartment is one half of an attractive duplex villa situated in the extensive grounds of the adults-only Inn on the Bay at Little Rockley Bay, just a few miles from Scarborough. Guests at Seagrape Villa have full use of the hotel swimming pool, restaurant and bars, etc.
This duplex villa is owned and managed by Marie Dilworth the owner and manager of Tobago Weddings, the island's premier wedding planning service. Given the excellent reputation of Marie's wedding service, it is no surprise to find that she pays the same care and attention to detail to the holiday accommodation offered at her villa.

Located at Pleasant Prospect, the property is just a 3-minute walk from Grafton Beach and various shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. The cottage is ideally suited to couples or solo travellers and can be rented in combination with the other apartments at Hibiscus Heights to provide a wonderful home-from-home for families and parties of up to ten visitors.

Young's House, previously known as Lemon Tree, is a two-storey wooden house located just 50 yards from the beach on Little Bay in Castara village. The house has two bedrooms and will sleep four people. The upstairs double Bedroom is air-conditioned with en-suite shower and toilet and ajoining lounge and veranda. Downstairs is the kitchen and a self-contained apartment with two single beds en-suite and fan and nets. Both showers have instant hot water.
