Bayview Villa - Review Page 4

Gardens & Swimming Pool

The shared swimming pool

The villa is set in compact, but very lush and mature, landscaped grounds. These are a riot of colour and, needless to say, attract a huge collection of tropical birds. Guests share an attractive circular (7m diameter) swimming pool located on the ground floor of the property.  The pool surround has half a dozen padded recliners and matching tables.

Although a lovely place to relax or sunbathe, having the sea so close to hand meant that it was seldom that we saw the pool in use.

Security

Although there is no 24-hour manned security at the villa, all windows are fitted with discrete security grills, as are many of the doors and points of access. Both front and rear gates are padlocked and guests issued with keys – but clearly all of this is dependent upon the resident guests applying common sense and ensuring that gates are locked behind them when entering or The secure frontageleaving the property. Each apartment is fitted with a small security safe for valuables. The house also has its own resident guard dog, Scratchy. Aptly named, I’m not sure that this lovely furry lad would take down an intruder, but hopefully his bark would wake resident guests.

Guests with a rental vehicle would be ill-advised to try parking within the villa grounds – the drive is far too steep to do so safely. However, the villa is situated in a very quiet unmade road that services just three other properties and cannot be seen from any public area. There is adequate parking in the lane immediately outside and adjacent to the villa and it will be perfectly safe to leave cars here at any time, particularly as car crime is still surprisingly rare in Tobago.

All in all, we consider that the villa has achieved a perfectly acceptable balance of basic security without making guests feel that they are staying in a prison.

Conclusion

Bayview Villa clearly boasts an ideal location. It is one of very few rental properties where we can Evening view from the balcony honestly say that having your own transport is not essential. It is within walking distance of one Tobago’s most attractive beaches and the most useful cluster of shops and restaurants along the Caribbean coast. The villa and apartments themselves are attractive, comfortable and beautifully furnished. Put everything together and it is clear that few other properties can offer a better overall package. Whether a couple or a larger family group, we truly feel that Bayview Villa is deserving of shortlisting by anyone looking for high quality self-catering holiday accommodation in Tobago.
