Infinity Villa - Review Page 3
Accommodation, page 2
The four bedrooms are all air-conditioned and fully en suite. Those at either end of the villa are the largest, offering total accommodation of 375sq.ft. (including the bathroom). The two identical inner bedrooms are marginally smaller, offering a gross floor area of 340sq.ft. The master bedroom at the end of the southern wing is normally retained as the owner’s private room and only used when the renting party need all four bedrooms. All four rooms have double glazed doors providing access onto the common balcony and all provide sea views, although those in the southern wing look up the coastline rather than out to sea and are therefore more interesting. All the rooms are furnished and equipped to similar standard, so other than where mentioned, it can be taken that all rooms share the same features as the room we occupied, which I shall describe in detail.
Our room was called the “Leather” room. Not many rooms are large enough to carry such heavy dark-brown furnishings without appearing oppressive, but this was certainly not the case here. The 6-foot king-sized bed was superbly comfortable. The white bedspread was relieved by a vibrant wide strip of embroidered Indian fabric and pair of cushions that looked stunning. Being nearly 27 feet long, the room offered tons of space and
it was wonderful not having to store our suitcases in other rooms to avoid falling over them. The two wardrobes provided five feet of half-length hanging space (pity there was no full-length) with lots of hangers and drawer space and a dressing table area. The storage provided by a large chest of drawers was superfluous to our requirements, even with the amount of luggage needed for our two month stay on the island, but served as a useful stand for the large television. Attractive decorative drape curtains were effective at keeping out the early morning sunlight but were not needed for privacy.
The en suite bathroom was similarly spacious and light. The washbasin was inset into a vanity unit and provided enough storage space for our toiletries. There was also a thoughtful choice of complimentary toiletries including a pillow mist spray to help guests relax at night (not that artificial aids are normally necessary on Tobago and certainly not here, in the peace and quiet of Infinity Villa). The washbasin was equipped with a shaver socket and hairdryer. The high-quality soft and fluffy towels were changed daily. As you would expect with this level of accommodation, beach towels are provided. The fully-tiled walk-in shower was of perfect size, allowing you to dry yourself without banging your arms. Although water pressure was good and the temperature consistent, the excellence of the shower was spoiled by the fact that it took over two minutes for hot water to flow and that the water never quite hit ‘hot’ status. Nevertheless, the cascade was powerful, without stinging sunburned shoulders.
The bedroom’s 9-foot high ceiling feature an attractive inset panel with low-voltage spot lights around a large central ceiling fan. The split-unit air-conditioners are modern, efficient and fairly quiet. An electric mosquito deterrent was provided, but we saw little trace of mosquitoes.
Adjacent to the Leather room is the White room. It almost seems insulting to describe this room as ‘smaller’ than the Leather room. At nearly 23ft by 15ft, it is a spacious room by any standards. As with all the décor throughout Infinity, the style is relatively minimalist, but sophisticated. Nice clean lines aid the illusion of quiet calm. Having a preference for lighter-coloured furnishing, I found the White room (and its identical partner in the south wing) to be my personal favourite. The room is furnished with a 5-foot double bed, bedside tables with lamps, a free-standing full-length mirror, two built-in wardrobes, a lovely chest of drawers and a television set. A large cot with built-in mosquito net is available for babies and toddlers and had been left out for us to see. Being mounted on castors, the cot can be moved out to other areas of the house and used as a daytime playpen.
In the south wing, the smaller room is furnished identically to the White room. The adjacent owner’s master bedroom is virtually identical to the Leather room, the main difference being that it is furnished with an impressive four-poster bed with canopy top and lovely rich Indian fabric drapes at the head and foot of the bed.
The living area and all four bedrooms provide direct access out onto the villa’s main balcony. A 23x10ft swimming pool dominates the centre of the patio area, immediately outside the living room. Shallow steps at both ends lead down into the water, making the pool appear U-shaped. The patio area in between is furnished with three padded sun loungers separated by small wooden tables.
Adjacent to the pool and patio area, a 7ft-wide covered balcony runs the length of the property, in front of the four bedrooms. Each wing is furnished with a wooden table and chairs and a couple of deck chairs. A gas barbeque is available for al fresco dining.
Although on a reasonably secure gated compound, Infinity Villa is surrounded by its own security fence and guests may choose to keep the entrance gates locked at all times. A gate intercom allows callers to announce their arrival. The house is fully alarmed and connected to a rapid-response centre. Armed guards will arrive within minutes if the alarm is triggered or the panic button pressed and if the villa occupants do not give the correct code to the response telephone call.
