Lippy Lodge Villa - Review Page 3

Accommodation: Ground Floor

The downstairs apartment bedroom

The two ground floor bedrooms are inter-connected and provide comfortable accommodation for up to six people. Each bedroom is fully en suite with its own bathroom. Rather strangely, but largely a product of the layout, the connecting door between the two bedrooms is via the bathroom of the ‘apartment’ bedroom.

At 290sq.ft., including the bathroom, this ‘apartment’ is spacious and attractive. It is furnished with two adjacent 39-inch single beds, each with their own bedside table and lamp. A wardrobe provides 2-feet of full-length hanging space, with lots of hangers, and shelf space. The addition of a five-drawer chest seems almost overkill.

There is a small colour television and a small dining table with two chairs sits beside the kitchen area and houses an extension to the villa’s telephone. The kitchen is equipped with an old, but serviceable, four-ring electric stove, fridge, microwave and a small collection of crockery, cutlery, glassware and cooking utensils.

The second bedroom is a little smaller at 230sq.ft., including the bathroom. It is furnished with two adjacent 33-inch single beds plus a 27-inch bunk bed that would be ideally suitable for two children. Four-feet of wardrobe space, evenly The second lower floor bedroomsplit between full-length hanging and shelves, plus a separate chest of drawers provide lots of space for clothing and other items. The bathrooms for both bedrooms are near-identical and offer a toilet, washbasin and fully-tiled walk-in shower. Both the washbasin and shower provide hot and cold water.

The downstairs ‘apartment’ does not have its own living area, but both bedrooms have direct access onto the poolside patio area. Both rooms are fully air-conditioned. The four-bed room has a modern split-unit, which is a considerable improvement over the other units. The larger apartment has one of the old-fashioned Peake units. Sadly, occupants will need to rely on this. Unlike guests staying upstairs, who can dispense with the air-conditioners and safely leave windows and door open, security considerations mean that the downstairs rooms would be less advised to leave the doors open at night.

Common Facilities

Immediately outside the smaller ground-floor bedroom and adjacent to the larger bedroom, is a very pleasant 22x12ft covered terrace furnished with a couple of hammocks, cushioned plastic chairs and a table. This terrace is also home to an aptly named ‘Attitude Adjustment Centre’ – i.e. a poolside bar, with a cold-water sink inset into a tiled work surface above storage cupboards for drinks and glasses. The only thing missing was a small fridge to keep the bottles of Carib chilled.

The swimming poolAdjacent to this is the kidney-shaped swimming pool. At around 24x14ft maximum dimensions, it is not going to be a practical training ground for Olympic swimmers, but with the cool waters of Pigeon Point only a few minutes away, I doubt whether anyone would want a pool for serious swimming.

The pool area is adequately furnished with a collection of white plastic poolside furniture: chairs, recliners and both large and small tables. We understand that a new gas BBQ grill has been acquired since our visit.

To the rear of the property is a common laundry room with large American washer and dryer. An iron and small ironing board were available in the upper rooms.

Housekeeping

Lippy Lodge Villa is fully serviced. Housekeeper, Gale, is a cheery soul and is in attendance each day (except Sundays) from 9am to 2pm. She keeps the villa clean and tidy, launders and changes the towels and linen, makes beds and does any washing up. Guests can also make private arrangements with her for meals to be cooked at a very reasonable cost of TT$50 ($5/US$8), although you will provide the food. The comments in the Visitors’ Book certainly show that she is very popular with guests.

Conclusion

The terrace and poolAs I am prone to saying all too often, our five days at Lippy Lodge Villa passed all too quickly.

Without any question of doubt, Lippy Lodge represents a wonderful holiday base for a family or group of friends. The villa is ideally located and offers under-stated but comfortable accommodation, all under the supervision of a friendly and helpful housekeeper, Gale.

Yes, we can definitely recommend Lippy Lodge.
